Buying Qantas tickets online from Bangkok

Confused.... Why don't you earn points on the 920 fare?
I am guessing that it is not QF but CX or SQ instead. Both those airlines have cheaper airfares that do not earn points/miles.

Another way around this is to book QF flights through the BA website, though I havn't tried this myself.
Prices seem broadly similar, but I suppose you don't get the status bonus points on a BA flight No.

For certain flights you do get the status bonus miles for OW partners. BA is one of them, AA is another.

For flights from Australia to Europe and v.v. you also earn miles at the 'full rate' whether on Qantas or BA (so 1 mile in discount economy). This earn rate is not the same for other flights where you can earn as little as 25% of actual miles flown on BA (but you still get the status bonus of 25, 50 or 100% depending on your status.)

The JSA would ensure there is no difference ex BKK on BA or QF.

Thanks for the info. In that case I'll give it a try some time.
I notice also that using BA gives the option of using TG flights between SIN and BKK, whereas QF only offer 3K. (Returning from Perth)

How does the saying go? Ah yes, "No way Jose!" I have seen significant differences in airfares in the past. And it happens ex-SIN as well.

The reference to the JSA is made in relation to FF earn as quoted, not fare differences.

Classic award BKK to SYD

Hey there,

I booked a YASA to BKK and have to book a classic award back as I couldn't get a JASA back. Here comes the problem... I can't book this as I have to present my credit card in person at the QF office in BKK... Why is this and is there a way around this?

I have moved your post to this thread that discusses it in detail, not sure we really got to the bottom of why they use an agent....

Re: Classic award BKK to SYD

Credit card fraud - they're trying to ensure bookings are legitimate.

In the past, I've called them to say I'm away and can I come in on xx/xx/xx to verify and pay for the booking. (I often have to book flights whilst OS on shoots.) They have been most accommodating, and I haven't had any problems.

Best bet would be to make the booking and then call to explain. They are extremely helpful, just don't call between 12pm-1pm - lunch and they don't answer the phones at all. :)

Thanks Markis, I searched before I posted but search term classic award...

Sounds like the people in my regional office in BKK. Will try that tomorrow

I've notice that in Asia, other airlines are now accepting

Verified by Visa:

Visa Australia | Secure Online Shopping

and MasterCard SecureCode:

MasterCard SecureCode® | MasterCard® Australia

Instead of wanting to see the actual card.

Yes AirAisa have this implemented, but you can actually skip it - I had to as I'd forgotten my password - and it still allows the booking. (BA on the other hand, rejected - no VBV, no seat selection booking until I re-registered my Visa card.)

A couple of airlines insist on seeing your CC when you check-in if booked online - CX, PG and TG are some I've flown, and will charge the fare again, if you can't present the card upon check-in.

Rather a good idea, unless your PA in AU booked the flight and didn't accompany you to the airport in TH. (Almost happened to me when flying with a colleague - luckily his PA *was* with us on that flight, or it could have got messy.)

Question... What happens when you don't ring the QF people in BKK? Do they just don't issue the ticket and credit the points back?

I just had an email rescheduling the whole trip and I booked my award flight yesterday. Anybody been in a similar situation who can shed some light?

If you don't show, they'll cancel; they have called me when I've booked, the day before payment is due, to confirm I'll be paying. Possibly they may not call you as you're not in BKK, but you can explain the changes if they do.

You aren't actually charged until you front up - they had to do a big reward flight for 2 of us recently and commented on how much the tax was (44,000THB) - biggest the girl had ever seen for taxes.

Take a seat, wait to be called, get out that plastic and watch your wallet get lighter before your eyes!!

With regards to the points, contact Qantas directly - it took an absolute age for a cash refund from BKK (4 months!!), but the points I used were credited by Qantas AU less those precious 5,000 fairly quickly; about 2-3 weeks if I remember correctly.

It was actually my wife who made the booking and the miles have been deducted from her account straight away. If we don't show up will they refund those?

I'm not sure if the BKK office will do that directly - I actually called Qantas AU to organise both the cash (taxes) refund and the points credited back to my account, to make sure they were credited asap.

As much as I like dealing with the Thai office, sometimes their information and idea of "timely" can differ quite a lot to what I really want. ;)

Just called the BKK office and they advised me to call the office in AU. Called the AU team and it took the consultant about 20 mins to come back to me advising he had cancelled my ASA booking and I had to make a new classic award booking...
