Buying Air Canada Aeroplan points

Thinking of going to Vietnam again, or possibly Japan. Will decide later.

If you are going to Vietnam, then for the same amount of points on Aeroplan you can tack on the SIN-SGN or SIN-DAD legs.
BNE-SIN-HAN however is 60k per person each way

I did not get the email from them, but my brother did. I did buy points in January so wonder whether that made a difference. Anyway, not really interested in buying as it seems full dynamic pricing is not too far away

I doubt you need an email from them? Just logon to Aeroplan and go to "Buy Points"?

I looked on the site (not a member) and the website offer only seems to be 70%

Often it shows a lower bonus on the main pages, but once you have logged in and selected ‘buy points’, the actual purchase page will have the higher bonus.

Ah that's good to know! I didn't search for that, but would like to go to Danang and I can see that option now for the same points.

You’d be better of changing, rather than cancelling, as the fee is lower to change.

You can also do both… stopover are permitted for 5000 points. So AU-SIN (stop for however many days you want)-DAD would be 50k points.

In this case the change would be to add the DAD sector.

To change an aeroplan booking and add a stopover, do both segments need to be available? Trying to change my mel-sin-dps to add a stop in SIN.

But you would expect that they want to promote their product? Do you need an email to buy - no. But if I wasn't on AFF then I wouldn't know about the sale.

Yes, I guess… but… as I’m on AFF I don’t keep an eye out for sales.

If I was’t on AFF i’d probably be checking if I needed miles!

I usually get the emails some time… rarely at the start of the sale, sometimes towards the end. It’s pretty hit and miss.

90% bonus for me. Have bought before and am warehousing them for a flight to Mauritius and Reunion on Air Mauritius from Perth hopefully soon.

Only got offered 75% off max discount. Struggling to use my existing Aeroplan points due to high cancellation fees. Not very flexible. Had a family trip of 3 pax planned one time and had to cancel. Cost me $450 CAD to do that. Ouch.

Have logged into both AC accounts. Indeed the max bonus for hubby is 75% for 30K and 90% for me for 70K. We have set up a family account. But not sure if we will buy - no trip planned with AC points.

I have set up Google Alerts so I get an instant alert when there is a sale. It’s quite handy.
