Has anyone ever purchased AA miles?

I'm thinking about purchasing 40,000 miles.

Looking at the terms and conditions, it appears that it's ok for non-US residents to purchase miles, but thought I'd check that there's nothing else that I need to be aware of (????)

Thanks

Hmmm....$1K USD for 40K miles I thought was a little steep but I have never thought a buying miles.
Note if you buy on or before 31/12/2006 you can then buy another 40K on or after 01/01/2007.

I haven't actually bought any yet but I plan to... the value is not too bad (depends what you use them for I guess) and definitely better than QF.

If you plan the Scratch Match Win game you get a bonus 2000 miles for every 10000 miles purchased (apparently takes 4-6 weeks to credit).

I forgot about the Scratch Match and Win promotion going on so that would be a big benefit of 20%.
Oh I play it everyday but have only won for the SO.

Have bought points in the past to 'top up' for a reward flight. No problems at all doing this online and, interestingly, I was able to pay with my Aus based credit card - unlike AA flights.

You can use aust credit card to purchase AA flights online - at aa.com if amount involved not too high, and at other online TAs.

Yep! I got 27,000 miles a few months back and it all went smoothly with my Australian Amex card.

From memory it takes a few days for them to show up.

Can I just ignore what it says on the aa site then? Have you actually done this at aa.com? Ringing the call centre to pay has become a right pain in the nether regions

Kind of. You can enter an Aust credit card even if select country as US (+ caribbean etc). You will need to enter a US zip code and state (zip code to be consistent with state), other address lines should be your real address per credit card.

As long as amount of ticket isnt too high it will go through automatically. Some have referred to USD1000 being okay - the exact amount at which AA applies a full credit check (and thus fails to ticket automatically) is not known. If you don't get an email confirming ticketing within a day, you can check on the AA website the status. The wording changes when it is confirmed. I'm too lazy to look up what the wording is right now, a search on AFF or perhaps one of the AA gurus will soon reveal it.

Note the automatic ticketing normally is very quick but sometimes might take a day. If it takes longer then most likely it will not complete.

If it doesn't complete then you have a few days to contact an AA ticket office to provide the necessary credit card info for them to complete the ticketing.

Apologies for O/T - but thanks Kiwi Flyer. Have used card the same way on cheaptickets etc. Will be much easier - cheers.
