I know it's been asked to death....

But my business essentially has me using all my cards on a high rotation and essentially getting $10,000 worth of spending on my cards every month.

Worst part is... No Frequent Flyer cards - only a BOQ card reward program that gives me the occassional JB Hifi card.

What card/s would you recommend for the most amount of beneficial points for flights?

Thanks so much - I have looked around and it's not always easy to know where to find the answers.

I love that you joined AFF in 2008 but this is only your second post - must be a record!!

Look into Anz black card with 1.5 pts for $1 spent on AMEX and 0.75 pts on Visa. It has 50k bonus points when join and no fee for the first year. It also accepts ATO payments for BASes and taxes (with 0.042% fee but worth it) and gives 2 lounge passes. We switched our business cc to this one last year and never looked back, keeping it after the first year. Further annual fee is $425 by memory.
Also we joint Aquire program for the business thanks for a tip from this forum and got quite a few additional points from there, like having workers comp through them.
all the best!

It would help to know where you are spending. Generally:

Platinum Amex Edge good for supermarkets (3ppd) and petrol stations. Remembering you can buy gift cards at WW/Coles that can also be used at a number of other places.
Bank issued Amex cards next best at a general 1.5 ppd (ANZ Black is not the only option here) for other places that take Amex.
Top end Citibank Visa for anywhere that does not take Amex.

Well.... I did until 2011 when a messy divorce scattered my accounts to the wind.

A beautiful wife, daughter and successful business later and I'm thinking, now... where was that great little Aussie forum I used to lurk at?

Will try and contribute more from now on - thanks! :)

Oh... and I'm spending at online American stores mostly.

Citibank Visa gives you extra points for overseas spend, covers the local spend with reasonable points and fairly diverse airline programs to transfer to BUT no ATO if that matters to you

If your spend is overseas use Citibank Platinum as they give 5 points for every dollar for international spend and 2 points per dollar for domestic spend. They do not give points for BAS payments though.

It depends on what you're mostly spending the money on.
If its travel/flights/hotels mostly (like me, lol) than Amex Ultimate is a goer.
They give 3 QF points per dollar on QF flights spend.
There's also 2 QF points per dollar on hotel and airline spend as well as overseas spend.
However it is useless beyond that as only 1 QF point per dollar on everything else.

For overseas non-Amex spend I use Westpac Black MasterCard which gives me 1.5 points per dollar.

So local spend I use ANZ Black Amex which gives me 1.5 QF points per dollar on everything, including ATO payments, which are a big points earner for me.

All that I am missing is a non-Amex card for local spend, something that will pay 1 point per dollar on MasterCard or Visa. For this I recommend the Woolies CC. I used to have it too but cancelled it a few months back. Early next year I will reapply.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much.

I'll definitely check this out... along with the Westpac and ANZ options.

Most of my business is US based so BAS is not normally an issue.

Do you pay GST? If so, then you will want a card that is 'ato compliant' ;)

Also, if you are spending mostly in the US, it might be better to use the Bankwest Platinum card as there is no Forex fee. It's a personal decision, but I would never use a card that charges 3.5%+ on forex purchases just to get FF points.

Won't be to many people's taste, but Diners can be used for US-based websites via PayPal as a Discover card (PayPal with other countries not good as does a double conversion into US$ and back again) earning 1.78 AA points/$ via SPG. You still have to pay one forex conversion though. As it's a charge card, fewer problems with credit limits.

Bankwest Platinum has devalued to 0.75 QF points/$ recently but you do avoid the forex whcih would put this at the top for me

As an aside also worth checking ebates and mrrebates for US sites cashback

Just a note, the plat offers nowhere near those points. Think they might mean the Citi Select.

My card of choice is the Citi Select, 1.5 PPD.
When I need an ATO compliant card ;) I use my ANZ Black AMEX.

With the black Amex card, what is the fee for BAS charges? I pay a motza every three months and the points would be great. Sorry, I meant Citibank Prestige, but check them out as they upgrade me and I forget which level it started at for the ++points for overseas. You do have the awful charges, but if you were paying them already, at least you would be using the extra points to your advantage. But also make sure you have an uncapped points level if you are spending a lot. Our cc charges $700 pa but is well worth it for the points. Usually I can get half this fee waived if I call though.
