Can anyone advise here.

I have a business trip coming up Syd-JNB-SYD in late August, J class also I have a OW Done 4 RTW trip proposed in November D class cost around A$10.5k.

My thoughts were to purchase the Done 4 D class fare in South Africa via the phone where it is apparently cheaper...use one leg of my SYD-JNB trip in August. Then start my Done 4 in JNB to Syd on the return leg in early Sept ,then continue on the Done 4 in November SYD LAX DFW LHR CPT JNB thus completing the Done 4 then return JNB-SYD on the return leg of my J class ticket.

Does this seem practical? And any idea what it may save me in $?

Any advice would be appriciated.

It may be doable.

Look here to compare costs and find the fare rules: oneworld - oneworld Explorer

FWIW, I purchased and commenced a DONE4 from CMB Sri Lanka; this was ~$3000 less than buying it in Oz.

A DONE4 ex South Africa has a base cost of ZAR39,950, which is approx AUD7,000; so the saving is significant.

Via email and telegraphic funds transfer to/from the Cathay Pacific Agent in Columbo. I collected the paper ticket at the CMB airport.

Note that Sri Lanka is not a good option these days since CX are not flying there at the moment.
