Buy business class get First

That QF agreed you purchased a business flex fare front up then apparently 'they changed it" is key here. That QF "freeo upgrade to F" fare from last year (was good value to LHR as an aside imho. but not to DFW lol) did have specific conditions but also when booking it it was very much into F on the one way when you booked it so you couldn't mistake it (though I did not book one on the mobile site but I don't see how it could be much different to the main one in this respect)

If you have that original itin PDF showing class as business flex that's your key. Whatever QF did after shouldn't change the base conditions (flexible) of the fare you bought. They shouldn't be charging you $300 cxl fee IMHO.

good luck!

Hope you get a satisfactory outcome from this one. Of course, in any usual situation, you'd be glad for a better product at a lower price, though in this specific instance, it was the terms & conditions you were specifically booking for, so the "auto-upgrade" was not necessary. Gets tricky to program apps/websites in these types of situation (95% of time people would be glad for it intervening), and doesn't sound like the user-experience on the mobile site did a great job highlighting its automatic intervention.

You should get all of the money back, you just need to speak to someone with enough authority to OK it.
You're a paid J customer you should be treated with a bit of respect by QF.
I'm following with interest, hope you get an outcome you're happy with. You certainly should.

Hi everyone
Just a update , I checked my credit card statement online this morning as I havn't heard anything from qantas , and the $300 has been refunded. Common sense prevailed and good news!
I guess it's a little trap to watch out for and a lesson learned . I wonder if it does the same thing if you buy a fully flex economy ticket and it automatically puts you into a sale premium economy because it's cheaper?
Anyway a good result . I've got EY business class flight coming up in April, SYD-AUH - DEL, ill give my first trip report a go!

Good to hear the outcome was to your satisfaction, henleybeach. Thanks for updating us all.

Regards,

BD
