Butter matters [Danish Lurpak on board]

Most spreadable butters are indeed butter with added vegetable oil. The spreadable butter from Mainland (Fonterra) is only made from butter (I believe processed to remove some of the specific types of fats).

Lurpak is available in either butter (salted or unsalted) or spreadable butter (butter + vegetable oil) versions - definitely not margarine.

The spreadable version spreads out of the fridge, and for me is the only spreadable product that tastes at least somewhat like butter apart from Mainland.

Personally not fond of margarine, and very thankful that QF often serve my favourite butter....

I am confused.

I don't have this issue with any other margarine I use. In fact I had no issue with Meadow Lea this morning.

Generally speaking margarine does not need to be kept in the fridge. It is put in the fridge in the supermarket to directly compete with butter. Most margarines can be stored at room temperature.

speaking of margarines... I was in a JAL flight recently (vegetarian meal) and was provided with a margarine quite unlike anything I have seen before. this was a pale whitish colour and pretty much in an almost liquid form (similar to a mayonnaise).

it was THE MOST delicious margarine I've ever had (replacing my previous favourite Becel... ifi have to eat a margarine that is!). wish I'd kept the top of the packet to buy some later.

It wasn't whipped butter by chance, was it? Some whipped butter doesn't hold its shape very well.

nope. it was marg. I wasn't even allowed to have ice cream because I'd ordered vegetarian and the crew were 'concerned' ice cream wasn't vegetarian. (it was a laco-ovo meal, but a 5 minute discussion with the purser eventually saw my scoop of salted caramel ice cream produced :) :))

This butter is now appearing in ads on my Facebook - I haven't even got AFF & Facebook linked!

The way we are going, we are going to need a vegan FA (VFA? LOL) on every flight to help decide what is & what isn't cool for vegans & the like to eat. Next minute, I'm sure some vegans out there won't accept the food unless it is served to them by another vegan.

Gelatine is often used in making ice cream. If a vegetarian I can understand the crews concern.

Stoopidsteve, please thank the catering company who provisioned QF24 (perhaps QF Catering in Oz?) and loaded Australian butter.

Ballantyne is a long established company based if I recall in South Melbourne, Victoria that has been known for its chocolate products as well. Perhaps the caterers read AFF.

Given that Lurpak ads have now started appearing on WA TV (and I assume country-wide), is it not at all possible that the letter writer who originally wrote to the newspaper - and in turn ignited the interest and discussion on this thread - was in fact a Lurpak stooge, practicing the fine art of "no such thing as bad publicity"?

I know I for one, I am now fully Lurpak aware, and may have totally ignored the TV were it not for this thread.

Now, I'm probably going to shuffle off and buy a pack to try it at home. (sucker!)

Conspiracy theory, I tell you!

That sort of thing could never happen...........could it? :p

Received a free sample of Lurpak with my latest Woolworths online purchase...... the plot thickens...

I'm not vegetarian. the crew knew that. I asked for ice cream. I don't expect the crew to third guess a request from an able person (not a minor or other person needing special consideration).

Interesting indeed.
