The situation is really unfortunate, and what makes it more unfortunate is that any negotiated outcome is only good ....... temporarily. And the same events happen all over again.

(I just hope it calms down enough for my RTW trip where HKT and BKK features at the start of it)

If anyone understands Thailand they will realise there will never be a solution to this issue as long as the minority (aristocrats) are in power. And the big players will always use the pawns in their battles. They want to have the poor under control and it is one of the only countries in the world where corruption is tolerated and it is not a military dictatorship.

The king will not be around forever and most fear the day he goes is the day Thailand slips backs to a military disctatorship and the country will be divided indefinitely. Forget about tourism if that happens.

Even if the protests are over next week it will not be long before they start again. The aristocrats will simply bribe the peasants in the north and east, Isaan (Esarn), to stage new protests.

Protest or no protests I am heading over in June and the only thing that will stop me is if the airport is closed or the protests move away from Bangkok.
