Off to HK with Mrs Subharpoon. Interested in comments on better seats: 11DG or 19DG. Read about last off A/C, last to be served, engine noise etc but would like a you beaut recommendation!

towards the front rows in the middle pairs are best for a couple - right at the front can feel a bit closed in and not able to see out the windows

i did the same trip with mum on the 330 and we had row 16 in the middle pair which was perfect - you can slide the chairs forward to chat across the divide easily

enjoy - its hard to go wrong in the CX long haul J cabin

I haven't flown long haul yet on CX but travelling around SE Asia I generally choose row 16 in business if available.

Thanks to you both. I must admit everything I have read points to 15 or 16DG. However, the mini cabin looks inviting as there are only 3 seats occupied out of the 11.

Thanks Happy Trails. I have decided to stick with 19DG. Trip report to follow!

Procrastination is the spice of life!
When it came time to online check in this morning, you guessed it-I changed the seats to 15DG!

Thanks for the reminder petsar68!
Row 15 was OK for the pair of us-but the slide forward was not enough to hold a meaningful one-on-one conversation. The seat itself was good but did not get to use the sleep mode-day flight.
The only BIG disappointment was at mealtimes when they only had one cart servicing both aisles. Down the port side up the starboard. Hence, by the time Mrs Subharpoon received her lunch they had run out of salmon. However, after the look the cabin staff received, one miraculously appeared.
The next, if ever flight to Hong Kong will definitely be Qantas.

Oh thats disappointing ! I'm flying a similar route but will be on my own. I have booked 15k after reading through this thread.
Good luck with Qantas.

They replenish the main courses from the galley at regular intervals. If they have run out when the cart gets to you, ask for another to be brought out.

For couples I would generally recommend two window seats, one behind the other.

Can't recall ever seeing just one cart servicing both aisles in a CX J cabin before. I must admit, being a CX Diamond, I always get asked my choice of main before the cart makes an appearance but being made to wait much longer for your food is much unlike CX in my experience.

Does it have more leg room?

We currently have allocated 19a, 20a, 20d, 20g, 20k. I liked us all in 1 row across but if you think that 19d and 19g is better I'll swap......

Not sure about the legroom, I know the regular (non-bulkhead) seats have plenty of room, and the beds are ultra long. Not sure if any of that bed length is lost at the bulkhead?

I would probably stay away from the very front seats... the further back in the cabin the greater sense of space. I would also probably keep the party on the one side of the plane - much easier to mix and mingle without having to walk through the galley to do it. (So that's be something like 19A, 20AD, 21AD or some combination similar). You'd basically have a private and separate cabin to yourselves (save for one other passenger if that seat ends up occupied).

How does CX A330 BNE-HKG business class product compare to QF A330 business class product.

The 12:55am departure is great for early morning arrival into HKG but I have to bring golf clubs up from SYD on weekend and carry to/from airport.

The CX 333 product is full flat, individual private seats. QF (current model) angled beds with someone beside you.

Until QF gets their news seats I'd recommend CX for a good night's sleep. You'll need to take your own sleepwear on the CX flight though.

Bulkhead seats have no difference in leg room - the same seat shell is attached to a partition which in some cases is a cupboard

I have had front seats on both sides of the 33G in J and found them excellent - they are far enough back from the galley and toilets to avoid disturbance

CX Lie flat bed much better for sleeping
Seat design far more private than QF
Meal service much quicker/more efficient allowing sleep maximisation (and with a proper breakfast!)

Thanks.

If I pay for business class it is not because I want to sleep. I can sleeep in economy. I want to enjoy the experience just like I did the other day in business on SYD-HKG on a QF747. Great experience. I think I accidentally fell asleep for 10-15 minutes which was disappointing.
