Flew MEL-BNE last night and there was an announcment prior to boarding that they had had some issues with catering and as a result the catering hadn't been restocked. They were encouraging Saver pax to purchase food in the airport to bring on board.

Still received my Flexi meal but it did look like the catering was pretty limited for the one J pax - I also noticed they paged him prior to boarding and spoke to him extensively.

Plane was delayed ~40 mins after originally looking to be an on time departure. Crew repeatedly put the delay down to catering issues.

"Teething issues" or not, this is not good enough!

LiamR - Long day huh ;) Would be nice to hear another TR

For me, I still want to make Platinum but it's hard to pick a route for a quick SC run....

There are lots of 737-700's on the routes and considering only 2 of them are refitted, chances are I'll get the old fitout...

Not a big deal I guess since it's only a SC run but would be nice to have the correct J experience... Also added to that this weekend looks wet in QLD and I was probably going to hit a beach for a bit....

Hmmm, what to do....

Im looking at taking advantage of the Double SC on Biz from 26th Jan - 29th Feb in the quest to final kick over to Gold.
I quickly pulled together a table on $ per SC for EX SYDNEY based on Biz Double SC Promo.

Mackay is looking the pick for value for $$ per SC.

Great opportunity to finally tick a few things of the to do list :

* Sydney Lounge & Premium Entry
* New Biz product
* Brisbane Lounge ( do the 1 stop to use 737 on both sectors instead of E190 direct )
* Mackay Lounge

Thanks for this tip ... Syd-Mky-Syd in a day ... here I come!

Re: Earn DoublePoints and SCs on J fares.

But also flying out of MCY they are not selling J.So why do I get this now and starting from tomorrow.I have checked as I have flights to and from MEL coming up but they dont offer J to me on the booking page. And why head the email exclusive?

[backpedal]

Well, to be fair then, I didn't get the email yet. I knew that J was coming through everything else but email. Same with the double SCs / double points.

I don't think it's exclusive per se. Were there instructions that you have to register? (Of course, they may just do the easy thing and just retain the FF#s of those who they sent emails to; or just open the promo for everyone). Nevertheless, it does make you feel special, doesn't it? :)

I think you would not be so happy (or someone in a similar position) if it were a truly exclusive promo and they didn't offer it to you simply on account that there's no J out of MCY; OTOH you may fly J on other sectors after you get out of MCY. Oddly enough, I thought since MCY is serviced with jets, and all jets are getting J, why wouldn't they sell J from MCY (unless they've held back on some markets until they can fully service them with J)?

EDIT: Just got the email described above. Also marked "Exclusive offer".

Yes MCY is jets and 1 flight by me and 2 by mrsdrron have been configured with J.Row 3 for us each time though mrsdrron was allowed to switch to the front on 1 occasion.
What intigues me is that when I go to buy a MCY-MEL ticket only economy is offered yet on all these flight there have been 1 or 2 seated up front.Maybe if you buy the full Y fare or plats using their upgrades-though how do they do that when officially no J?
I am used to not getting offers that others get-Hhonors always did it to me and EDR is good at it too. However I actually get annoyed when I am offered something that is not as it seems-and this certainly is not an Exclusive offer.See you really cant please everyone all the time as Honest Abe was aware.;)

I have just booked a MEL-OOL-MEL flight in J for this week

I specifically booked the 737-800, per the advice on here, for a full J experience

Anything less than what is advertised and I will be making quite a bit of noise about it via various means

PE Seating - Doesn't cut it and I expect a partial refund
Lack of catering - Doesn't' cut it and I expect a small refund, or some VFF points

Now I could go ahead and book a E190 or 737-700 which have no business seating......

Now as the pricing/booking/website indicates a J service that's what I expect. A very small disclaimer saying that plane changes may occur etc etc doesn't' cut it.

Will report back!

Lovestotravel, with the weather how it is in SEQ at the moment and expected to be similar for the remainder of the week, aircraft changes are likely.
We appreciate the expectation of purchasing a particular fare, and we will do our very best to provide the best product and service at the time.

Seems to be some catering issues with the move to business class.

I redeemed some Velocity points to travel SYD-OOL on the weekend and on board we were advised that (business class) catering was not loaded. We were offered choice of items from regular menu instead, with a promise of follow up. Within 2 hrs of landing I had a message from VA management apologizing with a return phone number, and eventually we spoke on Monday. The service recovery was excellent, personalized and really beyond what I would expect or indeed was willing to accept. I accept that issues happen from time to time, especially when something (relatively) new is being initiated within an organisation. It is not always what is or isn't delivered that is the problem, it is way a problem is handled that sets an organisation apart, and on this score, in my experience VA was exceptional.

Received my "exclusive" offer today as well. Seems like their marketing team have deliberately scheduled the email for today.

Indeed, given the number of cancellations and changes to flights, I am probably going to cancel and re-book for next week I think!

Thanks

The deal from PER to say ... MEL then:

PER-SYD-MEL return, $2607 in J (via syd to get the A330 J experience and some miles)

Standard Deal = 2607 x 5 = 13,035 VFF
Status Credits = Zone 3 flight in J, so 80 x 2 = 160 (return ticket) = 160VSC
Assuming some type of 1:1 CC earner on the fare = 2607 VFF

I've upped my personal valuation of VFF to 3c, same as QF. Status credits are always difficult to put a value on and everyone has different circumstances. Gold and up is the only valuable status to suit my needs and I value a V SC at about $1.50 each. I could understand some valuing them higher and I might adjust my own view in the future too.

So, with the double VFF + SC deal

VFF's earned = 13,035 x 2 + 2607 = 38,677 x 0.03 = $860
SC earned = 160 x 2 = 320 x 1.5 = $480

I generally measure these things by looking at the residual cost to me after rewards benefits, so long as I know I will redeem the rewards, in this case, original fare $2607 - 860 - 480 = $1267

and will leave one 180SC off gold if they started with a clean slate.

Does that sound about right?
