I am flying to Paris next year in J class and was wondering which carriers provide the fully flat beds. I am on the Gold Coast but will fly out of Sydney if required to obtain the best result.
Your help would be much appreciated

Roger :)

Welcome to AFF, roger1956!

All of the first rate carriers should be able to provide what you need; you'll definitely need to look at connecting via SYD/MEL to get a decent range of airlines to choose from. VA/EY via AUH would be my personal preference for points earning opportunities (and also for being able to avoid LHR), but you should also consider EK, CX, SQ and several others besides.

From personal experience, CX and BA offer fully flat beds although their seating configuration isn't appealing to everyone.

I have flown QF J, but those had a slight "tilt" and I slide down the seat - not the most comfortable for me personally as I find my legs supporting me, meaning not the greatest sleeping experience.

Not sure if QF have upgraded there J seats to fully flat - last few times I've flown J it has been with BA.

I am about to book my ticket to CDG for a trip next month. I have done some research lately to reduce costs as I paid just over $6k for my tickets last year and it will be closer to $8k this time.

I will share my research if you can let me know your criteria: best price or best seat/service, stop over requirement, etc.

Booked on SQ SYD to CDG via SIN in July. A380 both sectors and probably the best J seat around at the moment (and only one stopover).

The new CX seats look nice, but I haven't had a chance to try those.

Although SQ don't have fully flat ex-BNE this leg may not be a sleeping sector for you. A couple of years ago I made a decision to transit through SYD for the benefit of accessing BA premium for the first sector. It wasn't worth the pain. Unless I have a significant benefit the extra 3-4 hours of the SYD transit isn't always worth it.

Can't really expect FA to make your bed all the time.
If travelling SQ Suites then you can pretty well have it the way you want it. That is what they are offering - a service to your needs.

Is that a J seat? They have 'cabins'? Wow. Seems like a lot of work tho. What if you're like me and like to take a few car naps during flight? Can't really expect FA to make your bed all the time.

Ah but you can...it's a suite so it's above first class technically. You also have the option for double beds.

The A380 is fully flat, the 747 as the tilt. The 747 wont have the tilt in the future when they replace the seats progressively.

Hope that's sooner rather than later - I don't usually fly via SIN, so am yet to try out the 380 or the beds. :)

My usual route is ADL-BKK via SYD; only done ADL-BKK via SIN once - and that was through Perth and then on J* Asia.

The Mk I Skybeds (ie slightly angled ones), are to be replaced on QF from December I am led to believe.

Perhaps you'd be kind enough to share both by price and by seat/service?

And of course you could go via AKL with NZ....(well.. to LHR at least)

Full flat beds there on the long hauls.....

Please note that they are all based on MEL-CDG:

CX - A$8,304 with 1 stop in HK. Good service, both new & old J seats are good.

SQ - $8,464 with 1 stop in Singapore - good service but no suite as mention in other

AY - $6,985 with a stop in either Singapore or Hong Kong + a stop in Helsinki. Only A330 has flat beds. A340 has flat beds at an angle and HEL-CDG leg is like QF domestic business class.

The other options I have considered are QF (too expensive & bed at an angle), EK (don't like to go via Dubai).

I have also considered flying economy to TPE and catch CX in J to go to CDG as TPE-CDG (via HKG) costs only A$3,660.

You can check seat specification on seatguru.com

Also, the above airlines has different promotions at different countries so it pays to check if it is cheaper to buy 2 individual sets of tickets such as MEL-TPE + TPE-CDG and take advantage of the high A$ and promos outside of Aus.
