Sorry to bump once again. I now need to apply for my visa. I am planning to fly into RGN on the same flight that will depart and commence my ex-RGN fare, so effectively a turnaround.

There is a transit visa but do I send the form, passport, photo down to Canberra. or do I apply for a standard tourist visa. Thanks,

I do read reports on FT that some folks who have flown in on the same flight going out have been able to get ground staff to take them directly the the departing lounge and thus avoid immigration (and not consume their visa).

Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in Business under $850

As far as I can ascertain, the transit visa is all done at the airport and doesn't require paperwork in advance. That said, the transit visa situation still seems to be a bit up in the air.

If you can afford the dollars I'd be inclined to send the paperwork to the embassy in Canberra to get a proper 28 day tourist visa. it seems almost all airlines require presentation of a visa on check-in or they won't allow you to fly, despite the published information on visas on arrival.

One other option might be to contact the airline who is carrying you into RGN and get them to email you (difficult, I know) and advise whether they would accept the visa on arrival procedure at check-in.

perhaps a new thread could be created for general Myanmar discussion - its torturous seeing it pop up in the new threads as if the deal might have come back! :)

I've looked into this on FT too, I'm planning to have paperwork/photos etc ready for on arrival transit visa (for a 6 hr transit from MH to MI) , I just don't have the time now to get the tourist visa in advance (I was planning to in SIN last week... the wait time for submissions was 2-3 hrs and then I discovered it was a holiday on Wednesday which meant pick on Thursday, and I needed to get to Thailand by then).

I've read on FT it seems staff will transfer you at the airport without going through immigration, if connecting to another flight to a different destination - but not if returning to the same destination. In your case (same plane turnaround), the logic suggests it should be OK ... airlines don't want to take on passengers without visas because they might be forced to fly them back to the point of origin ... but of course in theory there's absolutely no risk for the airline in your case, so what if the authorities order you back on the same plane, you have a ticket already! But chances of logic working when hard and fast rules are in place? Zilch.

Assuming your travel is not imminent, I'll post back here my experiences with a transit visa.

When my transit visa was originally denied it was only because I was there overnight, otherwise they would have been happy to keep me airside. You keeping bags in your pre RGN airport or checking them through? Without bags, I'm fairly confident you'd be fine...

I should have applied for a standard tourist visa in BKK last week, I was nearby having to visit the QF agent for credit card verification.

My ex-rgn fare is 30/1 so I might just apply for a standard visa via post to the consulate in Canberra. If it gets consumed then so be it, however FT indicates success at being assisted straight to the departure gate and 20 minutes later, back onto the same plane out.

In fact, I would be happy if TG checks me in at BKK for the (bkk-rgn-bkk)-icn-lax , issues BPs all the way, and lets me not fly the bkk-rgn-bkk sectors and proceed straight to the KE F lounge.
