Buggy VA2 Pricing Issues (all platforms)

Has anyone come across the gremlins in VA2 pricing?

It happens from time to time, across random routes. Where suddenly all their flights zero out except for flex and J buckets and stay that way for a few days then drop back down, on all platforms including their own website.

Current example is Mel-Ool on April 2 - every single flight has flicked to $499. (Via Syd it’s $200….)

Previously when I’ve seen this and really needed to book I have called the Virgin call centre and they’ve seen the available seats and the pricing and elevated the error to their IT team and a couple of days later it has been fixed but it’s annoying it has to be done.

Weird. I wonder what is causing it.

Easter is a week later.

Qld school holidays start around then with the other states following over the next week.

Maybe that's a reason, although the cheaper routing via SYD is conflicting.

I did briefly think that, but no, its an error for sure - again, I'll put money down on it. You can tell by looking at the pricing, every single flight is exactly the same price. And QF and JQ are both 3X cheaper.

We will be raising it with VA tomorrow, will let you know.

Its quite easy for them to spot because they see the loads then look at the price they are pushing and go 'WTF'....! Get the work experience kids onto it :)

VA115 BNE-ZQN on 27 December is my current bugbear.

Expertflyer is showing 1 seat except for full Y. If you look for 1 passenger, it's $450. Look for two, it's $870 each.

Seats are just being drip-fed out one at a time. Book one, another magically appears. Booking individually is what our friends have done.

Will try calling to see if I have any success.

How bizarre. I'm sure this is being done for a reason, but the obvious solution would be to book separate tickets then call to get them linked. Not ideal but better than paying 2x$870.

I've seen Qantas doing this in the past as well. Although in the case of Qantas it would take an hour or two for another cheaper ticket to reappear.

Peak periods generally default at high unsellable prices until revenue analysts get a chance to confirm the schedule and market prices.

Commonly seen when the system auto releases the schedule a year out. Analysts will comb over but not right away.

I know bloke at Jetstar who works in Revenue who ran me through the process.

We have escalated to VA several times (not via call centre though) and they have manually corrected after a few days but honestly it happens really frequently, that I just can’t be bothered anymore we just book another carrier, I can see their flights are literally empty so they are missing out on $.
