I booked a June trip to New York on QF last week for $1784 and have just noticed that that it's dropped to $1589! Not much I can do about it, if I'd waited it might have gone up...

I'll be an optimist and think that there might be more discounts coming later. Times must be tough if fares keep dropping like this!

Amazing what a little competition and a global financial crisis will do :)

Almost down to post 9-11 prices. In early 2002 we flew to New York on QF for a smidgen under $1500. Coupled this with a reasonable 4 star hotel on lexington with brekky for around $99 USD (this was OK for NYC even with the AUD at 0.5). Haven't looked but I assume GEC would be having downward impact on hotel prices too.

Hi folks. I actually watch air fares for a living and stories like the above will be all too common at the moment. A or so month ago, V Australia launched with $1199 rtn to LAX, then held out for $1400 midyear (with QF). That lasted all of three weeks when QF and VA went to sub-$1000 this week. The airlines are going to keep making these "ambit claims" for high(er) fares but whether they get them or not will depend on demand, which at the moment is just not there. Air fares are going to follow the All-Ords for the next few months. Unless there's a big jump in the stock market, the bargains will keep coming. Just wait for the next one if it's not readily apparent. Cheers, Clive

Not only the Y prices that have taken a turn south, travelling Y+ to LA the end of April and prices have come down around $2,000 based on a rtn journey.

Miss me by a few days, departing Sydney on the 26th April.
Will be interesting to see if the Y+ is worth the extra, especially considering the bargin basement fares to the US atm.
