Budget Malaysian airline to start Melbourne route

I bought a $199 ticket for a 'positioning' flight. I only paid extra for the seat selection. However I have only just discovered that you are not allowed to bring your own food and consume it on board. It is not too much of a problem flying from MEL to KUL as it is such a late flight. I just wonder how much they enforce this rule.

Cant say I tried to bring outside food in, but the Nasi Lemak on board (i think 7 or 12 ringit) is some of the best inflight food I've had :) Worth it.

Solution: Swap food/lunchboxes with your partner. Its not my food- I'm eating his/hers. I don't think they would get it. :)

When booking you get the choice of 'European' or 'Malaysian'. Looking at the menu, I could not work out what was their 'European' food is. Also I paid up front for a meal because I recall a save up to 50%. Now AUD $7*2.9 = 20.3 MYR, but the most expensive listed meal is a moderate 25MYR - call it 20% off. Maybe they throw in a drink. I'll be taking notes.

Their meal rates seem not over the top, relative to $8 sandwiches at some Aussie airport rip-offs. I usually flourish a 20 oz beaker, and ask, can you fill this with ice to go with the drink (just purchased) - enough to keep a furtive beer cold.

A serious question is how clean is the water in the toilet tap Vs what the hosties/galley area has, or is all water potable? . Besides exercise , keeping fluid levels up has got to help with DVT risks.

I've travelled Air Asia KUL-BKK both ways so assume this info is the same for AAX.

The Malaysian food is much better than the 'euro' food. When I flew in Jan 'Euro' food was a hot dog or cheeseburger - both looked tiny and not too good. The Beef Rendeng and Nasi Lamek were both very nice and tasty - if you like Malay food then this is a no-brainer.

I wouldn't touch the toilet water for drinking - BYO bottled water you will be find. I took both Coke and water onto my flights with no issues (the LCCT in KUL has shops past security with drinks, food, etc)

Just return home and found that mrs belli has booked family holiday to kul from mel after reading posts $1700 odd dollars for 4 for two weeks then a quick vist to bali for two weeks for $ 500 odd just goes to show that when specials are available it pays to make the most of them
First time of air asia not overly fussed about seating but doe they have music or tv

You pay $7 extra to allocate a seat, $35 for an extra room seat (like an exit row).

If you need the space, pay it! I would ....

I will! But I dont want to waste money as im not sure of the differences between the two seats (which cost different amounts yet are in the same row - you would assume all seats in that 3 config would have the same leg room).
