British Airways jettisons high fares and goes for offers to put ‘bums on seats’

BA have now offered - and I've accepted - an upgrade to WT+ each way for £250 (total) LHR-SYD vv.

So the upgrade for LHR-SYD vv cost about $A500 from Econ-WT+

They seem to release the upgrade opportunities about a week out from flights.

I'm still not 100% sure I am actually going to fly on these flights, and the change/cancellation rules are very unclear as to what it would cost to postpone... but if I fly, I'd prefer WT+ than WT anytime -especially at that price.

Thanks BA!

Note my ticket has had the following annotation added:
PROACTIVE UPGRADE/GGAIRBAGPOU
and fare class has been changed to:
PPOUGUK2

Wonder if that will give me any hassles with earning SC's or points.

Can I ask how far in advance of your flight you were offered your upgrade? Would you have been offered this due to your status?

I'm flying BA for LHR-HKG and also SYD-LHR, but the ticket is booked through Qantas. Do you think that would that rule out any such offer?

Thanks.

I don't believe Status had anything to do with it. The offers turned up about 7 days from the flights. As both flights were close (ie 30 hours apart), it was easy to upgrade both sectors.

Have a look at the BA Manage my booking system. If an upgrade is on offer, it will advise. Also, it can be offered when you check into your flight (normally checking in online). My last ticket was booked through Opodo (UK) - a travel agent, and I was offered an upgrade intra-Europe when checking in.

LHR-GVA (Geneva) is offered at £100.

IIRC, LHR-MUC (Munich) was also offered at that price, but it could have been 125.

To follow up on this thanks to Mal posting the link, I was offered a £150 upgrade on an £89 ticket when the original J fare would have been £821. I have no status, unless you think BA takes into account my QP ;)

I was offered the upgrade in the manage my booking area immediately after the ticket was issued.
