A UK television presenter was so shocked at the conditions in first class on a British Airways flight that he posted a video of it to YouTube and Twitter.

Owen Thomas, a former BBC anchor, boarded his flight to St Lucia in the Caribbean on what he said was a trip of a lifetime only to be appalled at what he found.
Posting the video to Twitter he wrote, “Be shocked”, with footage showing stains, food and dirt on the seats.

Probably not only BA. I make a habit of not looking or touching where I don't need to.
I flew the same QF aircraft three times in the one day. The first flight was v.early, and the last flight quite late in the day. The same detritus was in the same place each time.

How often are aircraft properly cleaned? Apart from a quick dust, that is.

At their D check?

Good point. I mentioned in another thread I was in transit in SYD recently on an Air India flight. We weren't allowed off the plane and got to see the 'cleaning' first hand.

In general the cleaners were fairly half-hearted. One with the vacuum just sort of walked along and touched it to the ground a couple times, dabbing it here and there.

This is where the crew was impressive - they were watching everything, and having to point out things like 'vacuum in the bottom of the water bottle holders', 'vacuum in the seat recess'. And they were on top of things like missing blankets, and making sure antimacassars and pillow cases were replaced, not just patted down and made to 'look' fresh.

Without the crew the cabin wouldn't have been nearly as clean as it might. But would domestic crew want to do that 3 times a day? I doubt it. It'd get pretty boring.

Anyone who looks close enough will find plane seats are dirty, 5* hotel rooms are dirty and Michelin star restaurant kitchens are dirty. But we can't just stay in our own super clean homes all the time right? So better accept the facts, look away and enjoy life.

Not sure what the fear of dirt is about anyway. Most bacteria that are pathogenic can't survive outside of the body/host for very long. People clean way too much nowadays.

Typical BA, I've had some shockingly filthy F flights on them in the last few years and always swear I'll never fly them again... I seem to have the memory of a goldfish sometimes!

I don't mind my own filth. It's other people's remnants that I dislike.

Exactly!

After using the first hot towel for hands/face, it goes for a quick clean of the armrests, IFE controller, and seat controls. Sometimes it comes up clean, others it's come away almost black.

Is it time to bring up Ebola in this thread..... Where did that thread go? ;)
