Is anyone here a member of BA Executive Club based in Australia but also take a number of flights within Europe?

How do you find the earn/burn ratio and benefits in comparison to Qantas FF?
I'm currently a QF Plat but I am very put off by the takeover and would like to move as much of my business as possible to BA.

Do you have a non-Australian address to use for the BA membership?

My understanding of the scheme is that it is very hard to both earn and retain tiers within the scheme. But if you fly a lot in Business/Full Economy / First, then you could get some value out of it.
 
It is not hard to attain/maintain status as long as your travel is in H class or higher, however any lower fare basis will not count towards status at all

Internationally, that can make it a lot easier to attain status than QF if , for example, travelling on business in H class

It is necessary to fly 4 qualifying BA sectors to attain silver and another 4 to attain Gold

If moving from QFF , you would likely find AA cheaper for awards than BA.

Joining BA will require you to have a non South West Pacific address to use

What is your typical flying over a year?

I do have a non-Australian address. I won't be able to retain AA membership - from what I read (correct me if I am wrong), I have to fly on AA four times a year? I have never flown on AA and don't plan on doing so.

I do around 15 longhaul sectors, 10-20 European sectors and around 120 Australian domestic sectors per year, although this could well change quite a bit. I have done most of it in discount economy - I can see that it would be a big problem retaining status with BA from what Dave Noble said.

obviously it could change, but AA does not currently enforce the 4 sector "rule". With 120 sectors domestically , you would definately be able to maintain Executive Platinum with AA ( just avoid N class ) and earn a min of 1000 miles per flight domestically. your domestic sectors ( based on PLT status ) would earn enough points for a J award to Europe a year

Thanks Dave, I must have got confused over the 4 AA sectors a year rule! That is good news - I shall definitely look into AA then.

No worries. One other benefit of AA is that they do have lifetime statuses at 1MM (and 2MM) which it sounds like you'd get within 5 years
