BrisbaneTimes Tirade on BNE Airtrain

I'm sure QR could provide more services of their own bat if they wanted outside the normal hours.

QR dont own the track or stations beyond eagle junction, Airtrain do. The Government signed off over a 100 deeds and contracts to get it in place, I doubt any of the stakeholders are keen to change the goal posts now, despite what the minister would like!

As markis10 mentions (above), that’s not possible, even though it would work exactly as it does now and can’t be that expensive to add additional services. All it ever should have been was a service to the city, terminates, and you change to where you’re going, such as the Gold Coast. That model works brilliantly everywhere else, but instead they operate all the way down to Varsity Lakes now, so I’m sure that’s where their costs come from.

A simple service through aircraft operational hours from city to airport and back is all anyone wants. QR/Translink handles the rest. Wont happen, but I bet I could reduce costs and make it more profitable, so who the heck runs their company? :p

I realise that, one more endorsement should be neither here or there for the addition of extra services.

Thats overlooking the 4-6 years it took to get one more service as the last service. Dreaming! For the past 15 years QLD government premiers and ministers have been telling anyone that listens they must be good because of all the immigration from down south, now that the population has swelled we are finally doing something about the infrastructure needed to support the growth from 10 years ago. Classic "only do something when you have to in case you dont know what your doing" policy?

I’ve found tonight that AirTrain is even worse than they seem.

Next week I have a flight to SYD for the day from BNE. Early departure, come back around dinner time. Ordinarily the fares on the train would be $56 return, excessive to say the least. I thought about it briefly and then discovered I could use my GOcard to Brisbane, and get a ticket for $28 return to the airport, much better value…

But that’s where the dream ends, I wouldn’t manage to leave the train, buy a ticket and get back on the train while stopped at Central, so obviously an online ticket is the go, but it isn’t, you can only buy tickets that originate at the airport online, not from any other point. Probably part of their contract, but by doing so, they only serve to rip me off travelling from the Gold Coast.

So does anyone know if I can buy a ticket (not a book of tickets) for future use, from a station that’s not in Brisbane. I want to buy a Central - Airport return from Nerang… but I think I know what their answer will be… two fingers…

If so, this service really is a joke.

:)

I'm a young G.Grandma in my 70's and I've used the Airport Train twice from Robina on my own whilst departing for O'seas & returning home again.:D I've found no problems at all. Even the Rail Staff @ the International are so helpful and have assisted me to board the train with my HUGE suitcases.. so much so I'm using it again next year from Varsity Lakes this time flying Air NZ enroute to Canada...will be interested to see if things have changed..

You’ll find there’s now a quiet carriage at the end of the train, though the hoodlums will still talk loudly in it and disturb the peace and quiet because it’s not enforced :p

In Brisbane, you can buy $13 tickets (either way) from some newsagencies, travel places, hotels etc. Not sure of any Gold Coast ones.

It’s tempting, but then I’d have to get up there and spend more money :p

It just seems a joke that they only allow ticket sales FROM the airport, as if overseas/interstate visitors are the only market?

If it's later in the week, send me a PM and I'll post you down a couple tomorrow...

It’s OK, I think I’ll suck it up and pay more to get there, and buy a book of them for the future… but this does prove their service is essentially worthless, they’re ripping people (me) off! :p

Just for that, I might accidentally forget to touch my GOcard on :p
