In looking at a booking on QF Brisbane to Perth there is the option of different times, on either a A320 or a 737.

My rule of thumb is never choose a flight in a 737 on anything over 2 hours, is it just me, or do other members think along the same lines, given that if there is headwinds across to Perth the flight can stretch out to 4 hours.

cheers,

Scheduled flight duration is 5 hours 40 minutes (westbound) until 25 October and then between 5 hours 15 minutes and 5 hours 25 minutes thereafter...

I would choose the A330 over B737 on any route, even on a short MEL-SYD flight.

I try to avoid a 737 if I have a choice of A330 or the 767s which are about to go.

For that length of flight it would be torture.

Done PER-BNE in Row 12 before.

I survived to tell the tale...;)

I've done CBR-PER quite a few times in row 12 or 13, can remember now, but it was fine.

Had to do PER-BNE red-eye in 4B earlier this year after missing my original A330 flight.
That about fits your definition of torture.

I survived LAX-DCA redeye on AA as well.

And I am sure I will survive similar again but it's not something I would want to plan if there were decent alternatives.

Coast-to-coast flights on the 737 ... they suck, to put it mildly. We're heading to the US again early next year, and the fact that VA now only uses the 737 between PER-BNE (and vice versa) was one reason why we decided to fly out and back via SYD this time, so we can get the A330. I know there's always the possibility of a substitution at the last minute, but keeping fingers (and everything else!) crossed that it doesn't happen on our flights, especially as we're flying in J!

I do the regular WLG - MEL run in a 737 which is the same distance as PER to anywhere on the east coast and have discovered that anything longer than 35 seconds in whY is torture no matter what the row.

I arrived at Brisbane domestic yesterday to catch my 737 flight to Perth, while checking in I mentioned to the lady at check-in how stupid it is to have that aircraft on that leg for 5 hours, she agreed with me wholeheartedly and then added that I was lucky not to be on the morning airbus service which hadn't left after a 4 hour delay.

I usually keep my opinions to myself, thinking that no one in Qantas is going to listen anway, but couldn't help myself on boarding mentioning my displeasure to one of the cabin staff, who replied "How do you think we feel", so I reckon that sums it up.

Was I on the correct Qantas Group product? I forgot to check the paint job on the aircraft when I disembarked, it could have been silver and orange?

Has Qantas lost the plot?

Cheers,

Cheers,

Give me a QF 737 over a JQ A320 anyday.

But to your last point, no QF hasn't lost the plot over the selection of aircraft on this route. It isn't particularly new, as the 737's have been put on this run for a long time now. Why is it done? It is the frequency over capacity argument isn't it. It is better (for the airline, not necessarily the passenger) to have a smaller aircraft doing the route that is appropriate for the demand compared to a bigger aircraft that goes out half or quarter full.

Considering that VA are also using their 330's away from the PER-BNE (and v.v) runs, the narrow bodies must be doing something right.
