My rule of thumb is never choose a flight in a 737 on anything over 2 hours,

I've done the 737 a number of times.

It's not torture, but also not my choice. A wide body is nicer but in whY, (assuming you're travelling in Y) it's not a pleasant flight on any aircraft.

It's also not 4 hours but 5+! Ensure you have your own entertainment (in case of problems with in-flight ent) and a window or aisle seat (preferably an aisle IMHO as I prefer to get up for the others rather than try to wake two other fellow inmates to go to the loo).

NC headphones, a fully charged laptop and iPhone is essential.
 
They still do some VA flights PER>BNE | BNE>PER on the A330, it's just a matter of selecting the the right time!

Sorry, I should have qualified that by saying only 737 flights on the times/days we needed to book. And with so few A330 flights in/out of BNE, the risk of getting a sub is probably higher than going out through SYD! Mind you, these things are never guaranteed anyway ...
