Stupid question in here i suppose as i reckon i know the answer

Mate (WP) has SYD hKg on qf127 but now is in brisbane the day before

SHould he just catch qf8 and save the terminal transfer and have more F lounge time? and get out of bed 30 minutes later?

depends on whether the QF8 is on time... it would appear to be a good connection on paper.
 
Nothing wrong with QF8, just check the night before to see if it is on schedule or not, and if not plan to show up a little earlier at the domestic terminal.
 
I've done it a few times.......but only connecting to afternoon flights.

FWIW - I'd do a DOM flight and take the bus.
