Hi,

I'm flying into Brisbane from LAX on Qantas, then from Brisbane to Melbourne ( same ticket)

I'm wondering what happens with luggage.

I assume I collect and go through customs, but then do I need to transport it myself from international terminal to domestic and recheck in again?
Or is it like Sydney where there is a connections checkin at the international terminal?

Also, how do you get yourself from the international to the domestic terminal?

Many thanks

Pippi

You will have to collect your luggage and go through customs however both QF and VA have "express" baggage drop off facilities within the international terminal so you will not need to carry your own bags between terminals.
The skytrain connects the two terminals with only a 4 minute travel time however I don't know what the cost is.
There is a free terminal transfer bus (may need your boarding pass).
If you are in a real hurry you could catch a taxi but they may be reluctant to take you such a short trip so you may need to throw money at them if time is of the essence.

Thanks so much for your reply.

I assume then that I won't need to check in again at domestic airport as I should have a boarding pass already?

Yes they should give you both boarding passes in LAX.
If they don't there is a check in counter at the domestic transfers desk in the international terminal.
You would need to get a boarding pass there before leaving your luggage.
Even if you have a boarding pass from LAX they may make you get another one in BNE.
I had this happen to me once while returning from Nouméa to Perth via Brisbane.

What time do you get in? When MrsK and I came in on the flight from Singapore at 6am, the Qantas transfer desk wasn't staffed (too early apparently) and we had to take our bags across to the Domestic terminal on the transfer bus. We had our boarding passes for the Brisbane-Canberra leg already.

There is also an electronic display at the bus stop counting down the time to the arrival of the next transfer bus...

Thanks everyone for your help.
I get in at 715 am so if needed the desk should be open.
Domestic flight is at 1010 so that should leave plenty of time.
