After years of grumbling, I rocked up at the CBR J lounge today and asked for a bourbon and dry, expecting the usual Jim Beam rubbish. And then I saw him pick up the hallowed black bottle. That's right folks, Jack Daniels is the new standard "bourbon*" in the J lounge :)

Apparently quite a few of the spirits have been upgraded.

*the pedants amongst us will now that JD is not actually a bourbon ...

It'll only be an enhancement when they stop offering it with mixers! :p

:)! But I wonder why not Wild Turkey. Isn't WT the one used on QF flights (in J)?

Have to say give me a glass of JB and coke, WT and coke or JD and coke and i doubt i could tell you which one is which...

Give any of them to me without and coke and I'd say no thanks...

JB tastes like paint stripper.
WT tastes like heaven and is the less sweet of the remaining two.
JD is the sweeter one.

Ah well see i am a bit of sweet tooth, but i thought JB was maybe sweeter than JD??? WT with the higher alcohol content can be good for certain situations, i think i have a bottle of all of them at home...

No matter, when you don't have such delicate taste buds, you can actually be a lot more easily pleased... :)

I think too, I noticed the other day, that JD was on the international Y-class drinks list. It used to be JB I think? So maybe Qantas has ditched JB everywhere?

It's Makers Mark or nothin'!

And by nothin', I mean copious amounts of whatever sparkling or dry white is lying around ... or vodka ...

Not anymore :( (noooooo)

Not since about November last year from what I can put together, I did 6 J flights in December and wasnt any, and in Feb this year did SYD-MEL-HKG in J and there was nothing there, the CSM did say she believed they went "late last year" but didnt know why..

Did HKG-SYD in F on the A380 and while it wasnt on the menu, they still had it and in F its rare bread which I very much like and always get 3 bottles coming back duty free.. but I dont expect it to be there when I do 4 flights on the A380 in May/June...

Personally I think QF should serve Hendricks, its freely available in the AC's with a drink chit :)
I had an interesting afternoon coughtail at my local last week: Hendricks with freshly squeezed apple & cucumber juice. I couldn't quite believe it at first, but it was very good. Usually I drink Tanqueray (learnt gin appreciation in N America) rather than H or BS. Thanks for the tip Will ask for Hendricks in LAX AC in June.
