So we have now qualified!

Who is going? How are you getting there? Match tickets? Hotels?

I'm torn, if I can get award seats I will book some but I see accommodation and match tickets as by far the biggest problem...let the countdown commence!

Someone is very excited.

Good luck with flights, accommodation and match tickets.

Four Sandgropers are going!
In the cowd of 80,523 we saw them in the crowd.
My two each have US Air Dividend Miles and Qantas points so they will probably do a long cut thru the US.

So how many different locations in Brazil will matches be played? When will the draw be announced? I'm assuming it will be awhile yet and then the fight for tickets and hotel rooms will begin.

I do a bit of work in Brazil, so getting there shouldn't be an issue. Honestly, I see match tickets as the biggest problem. I was at South Africa 2010, and the amount of dodgy things going on regarding tickets...

Should be epic though :) I'll probably be there assuming I can get tickets!

Always wanted to visit Brazil and the World Cup is a great opportunity to go there.

I went in Kiev last year to see 3 games at the Euro Cup and it was fantastic.

Hope to use points for flights & hotels but I'm not sure what's the best way to get tickets.

I was planning to go to South America next year anyway, so might as well go for the cup... Might have to see the dates and make a USDM booking soon... Then sort out closer to the date when the draw is done which cities to go to... Hopefully hostels will still be a half decent price...

At least if you do go, there won't be any getting up at OMG o'clock in the middle of the night just to watch a match.

Having said that, knowing how they partay over there, you could still be up at that hour...

I'd rather be watching the soccer during the day and partying at night... :)

I will more than likely be heading to Brazil :) I'll probably head towards South America in early June exploring possibly Chile again, Argentina before heading to Brazil around mid-June :) [don't tell anyone yet but I am probably going to get married there too, its a destination wedding and although the plans are there, I haven't yet proposed so who knows what the outcome may be LOL]

A group of us were in Spain in 2010 and I can assure you the atmosphere then was super-electric!!! I recall vividly when we were in the middle of the Pamplona town square (as we were there for the Bull Run) and Spain won the semi-finals, then we flew to Barcelona for the finals and they won. Partying on the streets and what not! [I hear Madrid partied harder but hey, at least I was in Spainl]!

We have to wait for the draw in August before we know full details...

August? The full draw isn't made til December, we won't even know if New Zealand qualifies til November...

Be a dream to go myself; Afew late nights for me next year :)

EDIT: Or are we talking here about the ticketing draw/sale - Cause that starts late-August :) But abit of a roulette purchasing tickets for games your team probably won't be in :/

Like all World Cups since 1994 (USA) every team's group matches are spread over 3 cities.

Tickets should not be a problem if you go in the draw early enough. Plus it might be easier to get tickets after the draw. Like Germany 2006.

I see the biggest problem being accommodation and transport between cities.

Huge riots there at the moment against the government.
A lot of security issues need to be solved until the games begin.
But I'm sure the same things were said before SA 2010...

I was confused, you are of course correct.

Which just makes it even more difficult.... :)

Would you hold up anything to wait for New Zealand's fate to be decided?!?!? :)

I am booking first and worrying about the draws later. Even if I missed out of tickets to any OZ games, at least I will be in town where everyone is partying and watching any game, let alone a Brazil home game, would be giganticly fun.

With that World Youth Day thing there in a few weeks time, it will be interesting to see what they'll do to keep the riots and stuff down. Though like every other WYD, there'll no doubt be a few protests of a different manner... Having said that, I was in Madrid during the WYD back in 2011, and although everyone back home was freaking out thinking I would get injured or something in the riots, there was only a small protest near Sol and not much else. Felt extremely safe the whole time, even walking across the city back to my hotel in the wee hours of the morning.

Put in for three weeks leave yesterday for Brazil World Cup.

Been planning this for 2 years now......

Plan is to try snag an award seat but im doubtful, im going to probably just buy a ticket and hope for a points upgrade which will be a slim chance also.

Planning on going via Santiago most likely, or do people think going to LA first would be the best option?
