Probably won't be of too much interest to most of the AFF clan - but MNA announced their new routes from Yangon to coughet twice weekly (Fridays and Sundays) this week.

Inaugural flight is 25th March, and they had a launch function down in coughet the other day.

As someone based between Yangon and coughet this is brilliant news for me.

But for anyone who hasn't been to Myanmar before - it offers an option to get here directly from coughet.

This makes coughet a lot more alluring to me. Girlfriend gets her resort time and i can tag on 48 hrs in a new city. Will be bookmarking this one.

The airline any good?
Sorry, missed this.

Yes MNA is very good as far as local airlines go here. New model 737-800's on most international sectors, although you can end up on the Embraer depending on schedule.
All J fares include fully escorted priority check in, lounge and immigration fast track arriving or departing RGN

MNA is the re-vamped airline which took over from Myanma Airways (still with the same UB code). Totally new management and fleet these days. Gone are the old Fokker 27's and 28's deathtraps I used to have to fly on in my early days in country, although I still dine out on a few of the more hair-raising flight experiences...

Further to the initial news - Bangkok Airways has applied for a new coughet-Yangon route, and looks to launch this some time in Q3 this year.

Well, it didn't last too long.
MNA ceased their Yangon-coughet-Yangon flights a couple of weeks back, citing poor sales and the low season as the reason.

They have re-applied for the route from October, but oddly enough there is availability showing from early September on their booking site as of yesterday. Press releases say it may be 3 flights per week on resumption, but I'm skeptical on this

Bangkok Airways still gazetted to start the reverse HKT-RGN-HKT route from November 17th.
Its a difficult one. The Myanmar middle class are already travelling at greater numbers, so maybe this route just needs more media exposure and time
Whether the reverse coughet-Yangon route gets taken up is a matter to see. Currently its cheaper to transit through DMK from coughet to Yangon. (HKT-BKK-RGN works out about the same cost, but with a stopover)

Not a big thing for AFF'ers, but worth posting nonetheless for those in the region
