I have an old pair of Bose QC15s that are falling apart so I'm considering purchasing a pair of QC25. I have never considered buying anything from the Qantas store due to my perceptions of poor points redemption value. However, I've just received the 10% valentines offer from Qantas for purchases from their store and I have just seen that the QC25s are already on sale - were 58k, now 49k plus 10% discount making them 44.1k.

I know that everyone values their FF points differently but I just wanted to get a gauge from any point redemption experts to assertion if this would be a deal worth entertaining considering the 14k reduction in points.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

If in the USA, Bose will exchange your QC15's for current model for a small $ - you have to mention that the product is faulty.

I'm headed to the USA in 2 weeks so I just called Bose in LA to understand how this works - what are the conditions. The sales team advised that the department in the know are closed until Monday so she gave me a direct line to call. Whilst i did buy the original pair in the US, I don't have the receipt so just want to know if the exchange scenario will work for me.

At the same time I've just been to JB HI FI and managed to get a pair for $340 with the intention of reclaiming the tax on departure. I've not opened the box just in case the call on Monday leads to a positive result and I have to return the new pair. Although after reading other forums it would still appear to be a matter of luck as some US outlets aren't as forthcoming with the exchange programme!

I've actually called a couple of stores direct in the US and they've both advised me that it will cost $199 to upgrade the faulty QC15's to the QC25's. With the addition of tax and weak exchange rate I would only be marginally ahead. So i'll keep the ones I bought here and claim the tax at the airport which means i get to use them on my flight to the US.

Thanks for all of the advice!

Hi limewood, how'd the swap over go? I've got a pair of QC25s with broken leather. Bought them on amazon in the US so was considering the swap for $, but had seen replacement ear pieces on amazon for about $20 (+shipping). Does anyone know if this voids the warranty?

I'm keen to pick up a pair of QC25's and I'm in the midst of transferring points from all the different "minor" hotel loyalty programs where I've had no choice but to stay at on certain occasions.
Seeing that they normally take 6-8 weeks to transfer, I fear I might miss the Qantas Store's current sale (49,000 points). Already missed the Valentine's sale.
Does anyone know how often the Qantas store has sales for electronics?

They do that here too, at Bose branded stores (eg in Westfield Sydney). I am not sure it's small $ but it's less than new.

Actually considered this myself but wondered if you compare value it at $399.00 (RRP) or $362 (RRP less GST) or even $308.31 which was the Myer sale price before Christmas. After all that decided it wasn't worth it and I'd continue on my quest to accrue points for a potential honeymoon if I get married :p

With that in mind I ended up grabbing a pair of PSB M4U 2 headphones (ahead of QC20s which were the next option). I've read the noise cancelling isn't quite as good but the audio quality is higher - which is important to me given I plan on using these more when grounded than flying. Downside that I am okay with is that the M4U 2s are quite large and heavy.

I've no affiliation but AddictedToAudio in Kew, Melbourne were very friendly and will let you test headphones which is kinda cool :)

The Myer sale price would be the best deal at present (if available) given the FX position and the GST refund if traveling

I was lucky enough to be sitting next to the Bose Rep from QLD back in Feb on a SYD-DRW flight and was talking about the leather breaking. He asked for my postal address and had a replacement cushion kit sent to me, got it last week!! So happy that I don't need to buy a whole new pair. Although he did show me the new ones and look forward to them when this pair is no good anymore (3 years I would guess, as that is how long the leather has lasted so far).

As for warranty, I would guess it shouldn't void the warranty, but unsure.

qantas are doing another points sale for the QC25either 40290 points or down to 16116 + $186.14possibly due to the falling AUD best price I can google at the moment is around $330 AUD, so it looks like you'd be getting around 1c a point if you take the minimum points + pay option. Not the worst value for points, and i wonder if you could TRS the paid amount. Suppose if you get issue a tax invoice then you could get nearly $17 back

Always be cautious with that though. I googled-up a $299 deal from a disreputable (I later found) Gold Coast-based dealer of headphones and 7 weeks later no headphones have turned up and no corro from the company. Not worried though, as Amex placed a chargeback on it 5 weeks ago and have been continually updating me ever since with letters along the lines of "the merchant has not provided any justification of this charge yet". Kudos to Amex for looking after customers.

I'm still in the market (for my wife) so keep the deals coming if you hear. I don't get the 'triple black' angle: is this just for people who don't like a bit of tourquoise blue on the inside?

Seems some people were targeted with a may Birthday promo code to take 15% off points required

BDAYMAY16

Bit of talk on OZBargain as some with bday in may couldn't get the coupon to work.
