Bose Quiet Comfort Noise Cancelling Headphones:
Airline Adapter problem?
Q. Has anybody experienced problems with the supplied adapter or other adapters that are used to connect the Bose Quiet Comfort Headphones to the QANTAS 3 pin headphone seat socket?
If I use the supplied on board Qantas Noise cancelling Headphones with the 3 pin socket seat socket all works OK.
When I connect my Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones to the same seat socket using the 2 pin connector I experience connection problems. It sometimes works and other times does not.
I suspect that there is a slight difference in the pin specifications because a firm connection is not made. Jiggle the 2 pin connector around and it sometimes connects, and other times fails.
Have purchased from the On Board Qantas Shop a 2 pin adapter to use with my Bose Headphones to see if that would fix the problem.
No such luck. Both the Qantas supplied 2 pin adapter and the Bose supplied 2 Pin adapter caused the same problem = sometimes connects sometimes does not.
Maybe, just maybe, it is the lead to the headphones that is the problem, but no amount of twitching of the cable causes the problem; it appears to be with the seat connector itself.
If anybody has experienced the same problem with the Qantas 3 pin connector and the Bose 2 Pin adapter I would appreciate your feedback and solution

Yes I've started having the same problem . Didnt use to though, only started a few flights ago. Thought I might have broken my adaptor. But maybe the headphone jacks themselves have worn out, like the rest of the plane.

Just pull out the headphone jack from the adaptor slightly until you find the sweet spot and it should work again.

This is my work around too. I have the same problem with my QC20's on QF.
The sound comes through faintly unless I swivel the headphone jack around to a specific spot.

On the domestic 737 i get this constant buss like ping noise every second. I turn the volume up and it is drowned out a little but still present. I testes with qf headset at low volume and its still there but since you need to have higher volume to hear anything you don't notice it.
The ping is a set volume as if i turn the vol up it fades away.

A330 i took recently is fine.

That ping does my head in! I think it is only on the older 737's though.

It would appear a few of us are having the same connection problem.
The Bose 2 Pin connector does not make a firm connection when inserted into the QANTAS "lower" 2 pin connectors.
The on board supplied QANTAS Noise Cancelling Headphones with the 3 PIN connector Works probably because the 3 pins in a triangular configaration gives a FIRM Connection.
Noted that there is a design problem with some QANTAS seat connectors in so far as the Headphone connector is positioned adjacent to your leg and is constantly being battered by ones own movement in the seat.
Have often knocked the 2 pin connector out of the socket + bent the pins through my movement in the seat.
Nett result: Seat socket / 2 Pin Connector "damaged or distorted" to such an extent that you now have to "jiggle" your Bose 2 Pin connector in the socket to achieve connection. Move little and connection is lost.
Bottom Line: Poor placement of QANTAS 3 Pin connector adjacent to a passengers leg that results in damage to pin socket when a Headphone connector is inserted.

I think it's maybe a bit more than the placement of the QF connector as I have the same issues in the A380 F seat.

I thought it was my headphones. It's been driving me nuts for the last couple of years as my work flying to and from Melbourne has increased. Just bought some QC25s. Looks like the pinging might continue.

Have talked with BOSE Technical department rep.
They are not aware of any problems with their Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones when connected to aircraft seat sockets.
In my case it is not an isolated incident, have experienced Qantas 2 pin connection problems on various occasions; will have to keep "jiggling" until this is sorted out by somebody in power.
