Thinking about a wildlife trip to Borneo in Sept 27.Appwras to be a good time of year to go. Really want to concentrate on wildlife, not much else and especially the Orangutan 🦧

Reached out to a few well known and reputable Borneo travel companies but the quotes (excluding flights which I would arrange myself) are eye watering ...for Sandakan/Sepilok 4 dYs 3 nights, and Sukau → Lahad Datu → Danum Valley for another 2 nights.

Why can tripadeal doing it for 8 days for around 4,500 dollars ...albeit not to where as really want to go and see in total but only partly.

Anyone done one or the other and can offer a good strategy?

With Sandakan / Sepilok, we hired a car from Sandakan airport and drove ourselves. Not difficult as they drive on same side as here in Oz.

Dont forget to visit the war memorial in Sandakan.

If you don't want to drive you can get a Grab from your hotel in Sandakan.

These options will be much cheaper ;)

My nephew from Perth is currently there now. I'll check up on his arrangements when he returns. I was actually wondering if you were him when I saw the title and your Nic 😂

Been to Borneo twice (once in July, once in September - both times weather was great).

Strong recommendations:
- Turtle Island off the coast from Sandakan, this was absolutely incredible and definitely one of the best wildlife experiences we've done
- Sepilok Orangutang was great and we got incredibly close to the Orangutang's (we have also done the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre in Kuching, but thought Sepilok was better)
- Mulu National Park (bat exodus), not the easiest to get to but this was a very impressive experience and great caving as well
