I wanted to know how do you book award flights - typically J - on other airlines but with QF points.
The newsletter today suggested it but I don't understand how I use my QF points to book, when the QF site doesn't show availability.
Probably pretty basic but it escapes me

You need to book via Qantas, either online or call.

Searching is another matter and there are some good tips on this site.

(Moving to the Qantas forum.)

You always have to book directly with Qantas, either by calling up or on their website.

Sometimes though you'll find more options by using another website to SEARCH for availability. (Once you've found seats, you'd still then contact Qantas to book.)

Where it can make sense to check other websites is if you search on the Qantas website and no flights show as being available. The website is notorious for not showing available seats, especially when you're searching for something other than point-to-point direct flights (e.g. SYD-FRA). It's also not possible to search on the Qantas website for award flights originating in Doha, Colombo, Penang and many other places.

Searching on the British Airways website (for example) can yield more results for Oneworld partner airline flights. And if you happen to be searching for Jet Airways award availability, the only place to find this is Expert Flyer.
