This will be my first attempt at booking an award business saver flight and I haven't got definite dates yet, but looking at all the possibilities around July/August they are all waitlisted. If I book a waitlisted flight with KF points how do I go about booking a back up flight option without losing money? Also if I am booking 2 flights is it possible/likely that we will end up with one of them and not the other and have to travel separately- or are the bookings kept together. Apologies for asking what is probably obvious, appreciate any advice.

That's quite an opening series of questions.

For your backup plan you would have to book a fare that is fully refundable. I think the least you can lose is about $100 per tix.

Best chance with waitlist is to have flexibility of travel dates.

To help me can you maybe narrow down what you need to know in terms of your preferred route. Many people in the forum will know more about specific routes.

And of course, in the redemption game, there are no certainties!

Hi travellinmumberry

I'm no expert but I think 2 J seats in June or July is a big ask.

You could try SYD-CDG ( A380) and get the train to London, or even to Amsterdam (777), and then have a short hop to London

Have you transferred your points to Krisflyer yet?

Thank you Alby, I hope to fly Sydney to London Heathrow, Singapore air with Krisflyer points.

I would look at doing a Partner Award and book with Thai via Krisfley. Thai normally has much better availability than SQ, and so if SQ is taken it is worth looking into.

sort of related question...

if i book J saver awards using miles, do i then need the additional miles in my account to be able to waitlist F on the same flights? or can i cancel the J savers and rebook if/when the F waitlist clears using the same miles?

thanks

Does anyone know the answer to this ?

To make a Waitlist you need to have sufficient miles in your account. In my case, I would make the F waitlist first, then use the actual miles for the J redemptions.

When you the F confirmations come through you will need to negotiate with the call Centre so that they will hold those seats until the miles are redeposited.

For instance, planning to take Mrs Albatross to Europe in F next year. I will have sufficient miles by December but at the moment I have 2 x 2 pax one way redemptions in their system all on waitlist. I'll ticket each leg separately when it comes through.
