After much heartache and comments on here about how hard it was to get an award seat to Santiago in Feb next year, I have finally got one. (not my preferred date but I will make it work and if I get the opportunity to change to a preferred date I will later on)
I purposely booked my first flight for 48K points as soon as it was available due to the lack of availability on the Aus-South America leg and following the advice on here, will add to further flights as they become available and wear the change points penalty.
My question is now what should I do with my second and third flights? These will not yet take me up to the 140K award threshold. Therefore do I book them as individual flights and then get them combined when I book my fourth flight (which will take me up to the 140K threshold) or do I need to continually make changes to my original (first flight booking).
(Note - I do have about 85K more points than the 140K necessary so if I need points to come off then come back, I have a bit to play with)
Once again thank you to AFF members for all their advice. Before I joined this forum I did know a little re the 140K RTW award but I have learned so much more plus have used AA buy miles to book another holiday this year including my first ever first class flight. There is no way I would have learned all of this without advice of members here.
