Hi all,

Looking on QANTAS.com for a one-way flight Singapore -> Sydney seems to show some pretty cheap pricing (once you've changed your region to SG to get that option to come up).

Is there any restriction on actually booking a flight (e.g. do you have to have a Singaporean address?) this way?

I'm asking because what I'm being quoted by my TA here in Aus is 2x what is showing on the QANTAS website.

Thanks

AC

No, there is no restrictions. Just use your Australian credit card and no problems.
I do it all the time.

Ditto above comment. I reguarly book fares ex SIN with Aus credit card. Only a pity i don't get bonus points on my QF Amex cc card as not counted as Aus purchase.

Great - thanks guys. I'll ask my TA why they are charging me, to book a more expensive fare than what I can book myself :)

Because TA's in AU can't access fares from Singapore a lot of the time.
Our corp travel agent has the same issue.

Some fares are only for sale from the point of origin.

True. Maybe they should give access to the QANTAS website to these TAs, so they can just book it online :)

Edit: fixed typo :)

Good point. Is there anything stopping them from just using the QF website and booking on your behalf?

FWIW, in 4 hours I'm planning to board QF10 - a booking made on the QF.com Asian portal for two people back in February.

Cost =~AUD760 each (return).

Cheers ... (serfty in SIN)

Dunno. I have been told that JetStar bookings (I'm going KL first) would just be booked via the JetStar website, which they can do for me, or I can just do myself. So it appears that they do perform some bookings directly on websites.

I think most TAs can access fares ex-SIN but can only issue tickets in the higher classes like Y class.

I came across this issue when trying to book the old AY tag flights SIN-BKK and vice versa using an Australian TA. They were quoting me prices close to full economy airfares.

Try getting an airfare that low now?

A local TA here in Cairns has told me that they can book non Aus origin fares providing you also book an ex Aus fare to append them to - thus they could theortically do a DONE4 ex Manila, say, providing you also bought a ticket to get to MNL to start off the journey...

They would still have to charge the ex-AU price for the DONE4 since the DONE4 would be being issued in Australia

Yes, it wouldn't be the first time a TA had claimed something that proved impossible when it came to making a actual booking!

I remember being left stranded by Trailfinders Sydney trying to get a ticket issued on a Saturday morning before a J flight to the UK booked for later that afternoon...nobody seemed to realise that their ticketing rocess didn't operate on a weekend!!!

Having recently had my first experience of booking internal US flights direct with AA I am confident of doing a xONEx through them if I need to!

what a great point (given, I assume that no *ONE3 can be booked ex-Aus) - I wonder what would happen if someone tried to do that ?

I have done just that. Booked a DONE3 ex KUL via our Australian corporate TA and issued by QF. It was charged at the ex-Malaysia rate, converted to A$. And the only QF flight in the itinerary was QF107 LAX-JFK, which of course was not valid since I did not arrive into the USA nor depart from the USA on a QF flight. But it was booked at very short notice. Originally had a DONE4 booked ex-Australia. Then had to go to KUL at short notice (the day before due to depart on DONE4), so cancelled the DONE4 and booked BNE-SIN-KUL-HKG-BNE and then while in KUL I booked the DONE3 to pick up all the USA domestic, trans-Atlantic, and European segments, then used to return park of the other fare to get me home.

and they didn't pick up the QF 107 [QF108?] issue ?
I think they did ...

... but too late ...
... This was explained to me by the JFK Station Manager for QF. He met me upon arrival into JFK on QF108 when I was connecting to a BA trans-Atlantic flight. I had originally booked the QF108 as part of a DONE4 that used QF to arrive into LAX (that itinerary then included several AA domestic flights using AA flight numbers followed by QF108 LAX-JFK and then BA to LHR). However, the day before I was to commence that DONE4, I was redirected to another project that required me in KL first. So my DONE4 was cancelled and changed to a DONE3 ex-KUL with all USA and Europe flights matching my original DONE4.

As a result of this change my DONE3 now included QF108 but I did not arrive or depart the USA on QF (CX in and BA out), so was no longer permitted to use the QF108 flight.

The QF station manager at JFK met me at the door of the arriving aircraft as he was concerned as to how I had managed to book the itinerary (who booked it, who issued it etc). He wanted to see the e-ticket receipt. He said that if the FAA found out they had carried me, they would get a big fine, but he though it was unlikely they would find out. He said the check-in agent should have checked and refused to board me and bounced me to an AA flight. He wanted to know the booking TA details so he could contact them to let them know the booking eligibility rules. He understood the mistake when I explained the last minute change from eligible DONE4 to ineligible DONE3 routing. ...
