Rather than catching the red-eye from PER to BNE/SYD/MEL and then connecting with a flight to LAX, or getting up at 2am in order to get the first flight of the day to SYD/MEL to do the same connection (and hope to hell the flight isn't cancelled or significantly delayed), hubby and I would prefer to fly to the East Coast the night before, spend the night at an airport hotel and then take the international flight the next day. We find the red-eye then the long wait for the international flight absolutely wrecks us (neither of us can sleep on planes at all), and alternatively with the PER-SYD (or MEL) flight then almost straight on to the international flight stresses me out majorly about possibly misisng the LAX flight with only a 90 minute connection time (yes, I know, I'm a stresshead when it comes to things like that). So being able to fly over the day before would be a preferred option.

Does anyone know whether this sort of "stopover" can now be booked on the same itinerary as the international flights? I know you previously had to do separate bookings, and can't find anything on the VA site to indicate that this has changed, so was wondering whether anyone has done this. Would prefer to have flights on the same itinerary so we can book PE all the way through (for extra SCs for the domestic legs) and of course you can't book PE domestically ... and also so there's no issue with the connecting domestic flight on the way home in case the flight from LAX is late.

Thanks!

Would recommend calling to complete this type of booking .. if they try to charge you a fee, remind them that their website is dysfunctional and is incapable of booking flights like this..

Usually with connecting flights you do have a choice of options regarding what time you leave, I don't doubt it is easy but as notzac I would ring as think doing online would be in the way too hard basket!

Yep. Definitely possible and indeed the cheapest way to do it. There are also other benefits like getting the International baggage allowance on the domestic flights. If you can't create it using the website a TA or the call centre will be easily able to.

Thanks for the replies :) . Yes, it looks like a call to the Guest Contact Centre is in order as there's no way I can do it via the website. I've got the details of the "standard" connecting flights we're looking at and the total cost with the current PE sale fares, so will give them a call to ask what difference it will make to the fare if we move to an earlier flight the previous day. The only sticking point will probably be whether we can still book the PER-SYD flight in the "O" (Premium Saver) fare bucket - I suspect not, as PE fare buckets are probably only available on flights that Virgin allocates as connections on their flight schedules for PER-LAX. But I guess if you don't ask, you don't get!
