I've been lucky enough to secure approval to travel for my business to LHR.

I'm looking at Booking a J award to Europe with Emirates during May 2021

Any thoughts on probability of me getting bumped if I'm using a classic QF reward rather than paying for the ticket?

Most of this is really going to be outside the airline's control.

Airlines are bumping passengers when the Australian or state governments are cutting flights or making other changes such as reducing caps. We saw this most recently with flights from India which have been cut by a third. (It also seems WA is tonight requesting the Cth to cut arrivals by half as of this coming Thursday.)

If your flight is affected, having an award ticket may see you bumped in favour of a cash passenger.

If everything stays as is... flights continue to operate, the caps don't get reduced... there shouldn't be any particular reason for you to be bumped.

I guess there may be an element of airlines overbooking flights to make up for any no-shows. But I would expect them to apply the normal overbooking procedures in that case.

I don’t think you will have any real issues on the outbound.
Not at all confident of the return unless your business can operate indefinitely with you working remotely from Europe.

Agree. If other states follow WA's lead and are successful in cutting caps there will be a lot of displaced passengers... even those paying cash for business class.

I feel your best option is to pick a carrier with less hub traffic and more point to point travel. JAL via Tokyo on the return, perhaps.

Agreed that on the outbound you will have no trouble.

Sorry but this is a no go based on current restrictions.

The UAE is on the UK's red list and that means flights from Dubai to London are not taking passengers. Even if you manage to circumvent it, eg. Sydney Dubai Paris London, you will be required to complete hotel quarantine on arrival in London.

Look at doing an award on JL instead via Tokyo. That is a far better idea as you will be able to self isolate on arrival in London.

If you transit through Dubai I don't think you can enter UK unless a UK citizen and then you have to stay in their Hotel accommodation for 10 nights. You must check the UK website for RED zones and avoid.

Thank you for this information, very helpful. I just saw a lot of availability on Emirates and that's clearly the reason.

I'll look at through tokyo, sin, coughet instead now :)
