Booking flights through Amex portal

I am new to Australia and I was looking at Virgin Australia site and Amex travel site and Amex has $60 less than what VA has. Do I still get status credits for flying business if I book though Amex??

This is somewhat surprising, though. I would normally expect simple VA domestic bookings to price identically at Amex vs direct with VA, but not cheaper.

Are you sure it's pricing in AUD? Are you using travel.americanexpress.com.au and not amextravel.com?
