Thanks mate, really appreciate the help. What airport is WAY?

And still really surprised that a one way ticket costs more than a return.

Should have been WAS - but that PM there's no $49 fares. $84 is available but you start to lose in the balance between savings/inconvenience.

Does it have to be the 15th?on the 14th there's US$160 ea CLE-xATL-EWR are 4:45pm (US$320 all up).

Yes unfortunately, I planned the trip and hotels before the flights which may have been a mistake - but I'm a bit new to all this.

And since it's a rather special trip (we might be eloping) I think I might just have to get one of the expensive fares (or drive?). So much money for such a short flight though...

on the day you want to go there are fares for say $160 which take 1hr 10 mins longer than the non-stop fares for $500.

obviously you know your preferences, but are the velocity status credits worth the extra $360, or driving?

MEL_Traveller, thanks! Sorry, I've got an amazingly bad cold and being a bit dopey.

Will book this option!

MSY - CLE on the 13th is still rather expensive. If anyone has any tricks for this flight that would be great.

I can see MSY-CLE on Southwest for $185 and $179 per passenger, depending on time of day, which includes two free bags per passenger. Don't forget to add checked baggage fee for other carriers though, its about $25 per checked bag, unless you already have status with VA.
