Hi Guys and Gals

Whats the best site to use to book hotel accommodation in the USA?
I normally use wotif.com for domestic aussie accommodation - are there better alternatives for US travel?

Thanks!

I like to book direct with the hotel. Most hotels have the best price available on their website.

If you are looking for discounts try Priceline.com and Hotwire.com

There is also Expedia.com which usually has the same prices as booking direct with the hotel itself.

I like to book directly with the hotel as it means I can cancel or change etc.

It also means you can book the room you want.

I have used priceline.com - this would be my favourite US wotif!

I also like to book direct with the hotel as generally all you need to do is leave a credit card guarantee (no charge until your stay), and you can alter your booking if the price comes down or cancel if you find a better deal.
I always check travelzoo.com regularly and also use kayak for comparisons.

Totally agree with the comments here about booking direct. Most big hotel chains (eg. Starwood, Hilton, Hyatt etc) have price guarantees that their websites have the best rates.

For comparisons I'll look around on Expedia and the like, then book direct with the hotel. Also, if you find a hotel on Trip Advisor, you can click find rates and it will look up rates across a number of sites (eg. hotels.com, expedia etc).

Other benefits booking direct with hotels are you get loyalty points or FF points. Sometimes booking through a third party they won't award you with points, but if you'd booked with the hotel direct for the same rate you would have earned points. That's because they have to pay the booking sites commission - think of the points as your commission for booking direct!

A few other sites that may help for comparisons are yapta, bookingbuddy & onetime.
