Booking a Sydney to Bangkok itinerary with SIN stopover

I need to book a return trip from Sydney to Bangkok on VA code share flights (need eligible sector credits) with a stop over in Singapore on the way back.

On the VA website I can book a return trip with VA code share flights on all sectors (operated by SQ) but if I try and book it as a multi-destination with the Singapore stopover, the website doesn't give me the option for a BKK-SIN sector.

Is there a reason I can't book such an itinerary online and is the only way to do so is by calling up?

Perhaps BKK is not a point of sale for VA, thats why you can’t book anything originating from BKK. So when you do a multi destination, the sustem reads each “from” sector as origination and not a return.

I think you're going to have call VA to ask them, b/c if you booked it directly via Singapore Airlines, it would of course be allowed, since they allow 1 free stop-over (via Singapore) on that trip. I'm not sure though how that works when trying to book a code-share flight, since I don't recall VA allowing free stop-overs. I'd be interested to know what VA says about this for future reference.

I reached out to VA with a PM on Twitter and the reply I got back was that I would be able to get a stopover and that to book such an itinerary I'd have to use the call centre.
