hi folks,
i've booked my tickets for departure from melbourne - london next year ( well have paid a deposit).

Trip is as follows:
Melbourne - Dubai
Dubai - London
Paris - Dubai
Dubai - Melbourne

I am spending 2 days in Dubai but am considering on whether to skip Dubai and instead travel with Singapore Airline.

Does anyone know what the cost are involved in changing tickets?

will depend on the terms & conditions of your ticket, the fee schedule of your travel agent and your ability to negotiate (given the comission on a new ticket)

I would expect it to be at least a few hundred dollars on a cheap ticket, less on a more expensive ticket

You may find that it is cheap ( even free ) to change the dates on the EK tickets and so reduce the stopover to just a connection whilst refunding may well likely have penalties. Best thing to do is ask the travel agent since, regardless of airline rules, they may have their own charges/penalties ( such as loss of deposit possibly )

If you've just paid a deposit and it's to a travel agent, it shouldn't cost you anything to swap over.

Travel Agent's dont collect deposits and forward them to airlines, they hold them in their trust account to cover their time and lock you in, if you want to swap airlines, it should only be a matter of them rebooking you onto SQ.

Hi Jackstar... I'm not sure if price us your only reason to change but here are some thoughts:
I regularly travel melb - Dubai - Paris on emirates with stpovers in Dubai.
IMO this is a great way to do this trip because:
a. You get the "long leg" of the trip done first.
B. Dubai is a really interesting place to spend s few days. Grab a Big Red Bus ticket and hop on and off all the major sites in Dubai at your own pace. Spend 1/2 a day at wild wadi water park( water slides that go up hill). Go indoor snow skiing or just chill on thebeach front at the Medina Salat and look at the Baj alArab hotel. Check out the gold souk for a bargain.
C. Your 2 daystop over breaks up thetrip and you arrive in better shape in London.
D. Emirates is a great airline, with good food, good in flight entertainment and good service..

So if price is not the only factor, I highly recommend thestop over. All the best and Merry Christmas
