Bonza Delays/Cancellations

Mix of both. The pre-planned cancellations seem to be crew, the major delays/last minute cancellations engineering.

UKH is still down. Hasn’t flown since Friday. Today’s MEL-ROK was initially delayed for about 4 hours, but has just been cancelled instead.

QFd, JQd and VAd are not immune from unpunctuality or cancellations by any means, but on occasion with a larger fleet they can substiute one aircraft for another. Doesn't always work well though.

However the smaller 'mainline' domestic airlines in AB and ZL almost never have this option. ZL may for its larger SAAB 340B fleet but that's experiencing many crewing problems with allegedly some pilots having resigned for jobs elsewhere including in the USA.

Could bonza be down a plane again. Vk ukh came in late to twmba from Townsville yesterday but board says it didn't take off for Melbourne.

I live in Toowoomba

And knew the the flight to Proserpine would never work . Not surprised its gone and wellcamp has also lost 1 flight a week to Melbourne.

While OT from delays and cancellations so I'll be brief, Bonza's practice of only allowing access to schedules and bookings through its app (and supposedly via travel agents, but none seem to promote it) is costing it a lot of money.

On Friday 28 July 2023, AB1057, the 1140 hours MEL-TMW has been cancelled.

AB1065, the 1145 hours MEL-WTB has been delayed an expected one hour in pushback.

These are the only two timetabled Bonza departures from Melbourne today. Not great!

On Monday 7 August 2023, AB apparently cancelled flights between MEL-MQL and return.

It's made the News Corp online national site, with the two passengers quoted stating they respectively paid $50 and $89 for a single (i.e. one way journey):

"...On Monday, Bonza cancelled multiple flights between Mildura and Melbourne due to “crewing requirements”, and offered customers a replacement “coach” service for their 550km journeys in a text message.

Mildura mother Sheree Keating, who travelled home to Mildura from Melbourne on a “coach” with her daughter Stella, said the vehicle was “like a school bus” with bench seats and no toilet..."

Compare this to V/Line, which has fully toilet-equipped road coaches between Mildura and mainly Swan Hill (although some trips extend to Bendigo, and there's also an overnight coach six nights a week in each direction via Ballarat and St Arnaud). The main Mildura services see passengers transferring to or from a V/Line train at Swan Hill or less frequently, Bendigo.

While it's a huge subsidy and amazing given the massive Victorian state debt, the single fare on V/Line from Mildura to Melbourne is $5 for an adult and $2.50 for a concession card holder or child, yet it's more comfortable than what Bonza arranged, as V/Line trains to/from Swan Hill have a buffet section (take-away only, does not serve alcohol).

I wonder how much longer AB will survive.
