Bonza Airline Discussion

I'm not pleased that we're subsiding a 2nd Emirates flight...

I wouldn't be surprised if Bonza is getting big $$$ from the QLD Gov. One of Bonza's routes MCY-CNS was previously operated by Alliance Airlines was previously heavily subsidised by the QLD gov.
There would also be incentives from Palisades (operators of MCY) along with the SCRC (Ratepayers money) going towards Bonza basing their HQ (plus 3 planes and 1 spare) in MCY.

Perhaps they are delaying ops until something more stable like late March. April will be busy around the domestic network, Chinese tourists will be back in droves.

They would be lucky to pull 20-30 bodies per flight for next week and month if they decide to start actually selling seats this week. Fluffy flights with agents, tourism officials and what not doesn’t do much for the balance sheet.

True, but they'll want to soft-launch operations to get everything bedded down, etc. Better to SNAFU 20 people with a clue than 188 people who think they own the airline as they paid $99 to go somewhere.

Well I downloaded the app and signed up for their newsletter over a week ago. No acknowledgement and no changes to anything on the app. not looking positive.

Running a few dozen bodies for a month however is very costly. Would be cheaper not doing that, paying everyone and launching in a month with half to full flights.

Depends how much cash this investor wants to chuck at it. Money might not be a worry at the moment, but don’t forget it is about a year late, they would have already spent considerable amounts more vs original forecast.

I hope I’m wrong but at this point is looks like they may operate their first flight next week (essentially giving away all tickets) and then start a full schedule at a later date once they’ve sold some tickets.

I think they'd rather a soft launch rather than media reports of their system failing on day one.

If VA have taught us anything it's you don't need profit to run an airline! :D

Hence why I think tomorrow would be the perfect day to launch it - slow day as people will be distracted, but also plays into their ultra-Aussie theme.

Courtesy of a bunch of multiple owners with their country's Government support that 'wanted Australian feed' and were more than willing to help an 'infamous' now former VA ceo.

Have a look at all the Invasion Day rallies and businesses refusing to acknowledge Australia Day. I think we are quite possibly seeing the end of the day as we know it and it will be replaced in the coming years

It’s the vocal minority, and a change of date isn’t going to fix it. Those people won’t ever be happy with celebrating Australia on any date. This has happened every year for as long as I can remember.

Besides, the crowd Bonza is going for aren’t attending those rallies.

Preparations still in place it seems for next week. Bizarre.

Hope she got the money upfront

Yes
Local council where I used to live changed its name (colonialist past) but funny none of them are open or working today

Correct. Will be gone in a few years.

No business in their right mind would launch on Aus Day and clearly Bonza have a couple of brain cells in their Marketing / PR team in choosing not to :)

Yeh, they’re not flying to Sydney so not sure why they’d want to launch today, January 26th which is Sydney Day. 🤣 ( a view I’ve held well before the current controversy around the day).
