Boeing Accelerates 777, 747-8 Output Boost

Boeing is moving even faster than announced just this week in boosting output for the 777 and 747-8 production lines.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Jim Albaugh said earlier that the decision would be made in April. Instead, Boeing made it March 17.

The new plan sees 777 product rates return to seven aircraft per month from five. It made the decision to cut back to five aircraft only last year, but strong demand has caused Boeing to be bullish about future deliveries. The new rate will take effect in mid-2011.

Bring on the 747-8i, that's the plane I'm waiting for... Now we just need to see a few more airlines ordering them (QF I'm looking at you)

Dont think QF will have a need for more planes for a while once thier current fleet is refreshed, mind you the jury is still out on cpacity versus frequency.

By the time they get to the end of the refresh, it will be time to start thinking about replacements for some of the early in the refresh planes (if they haven't already done so).

They have a 20 year cycle, with the 787's yet to arrive, a young airbus fleet and more 738's coming I cannot seem them having a need for much else.

I believe there is a need for a foot in both camps here.

Without having looked at total numbers I would have thought there was room/need for some 748s to replace some of the 744s.

QF have 20 A380s on order in total to replace the 744's of which they have 21 non ER , while the 787's replace the 767 fleet.

The only hole I can see is for the ER's, which have a good 8-14 years of life left in them. With 165 aircraft on order and the cancellation of some of the 787 options last year, I cannot see too much action for 5 years or so for the aircraft reps!

QF group fleet as of March 1

6 x Airbus A380-800
6 x Boeing 747-400ER
21 x Boeing 747-400
26 x Boeing 767-300ER
41 x Boeing 737-800
21 x Boeing 737-400
11 x Boeing 717-200
10 x Airbus A330-300
7 x Airbus A330-200
21 x Bombardier Dash 8 (200/Q300)
21 x Bombardier Dash 8 (Q400)

Jetstar

42 x Airbus A320-200*
6 x Airbus A321-200
7 x Airbus A330-200
