From ATW Daily News:

Boeing yesterday conceded that delivery of the first 787 to launch customer ANA could slip into 2011.

In widely reported comments, 787 Program VP and GM Scott Fancher said that while the company is still planning to deliver the aircraft in the fourth quarter, the margin in the Dreamliner's flight test program schedule has been "pushed."

I saw an interview on CNN and he seemed to suggest they were trying as hard as they could to deliver before the end of 2010, but you never know. Realistically, they might make a delivery on the last day of December, that’s still late-2010 :p

A certain computer technology company with a 3-letter acronym name was known for booking deals on 35th December to make their end-of-year targets back on the 90's.

Thank God for Sarbanes Oxley and the demise of "stuffing the channel" practices, most if not all US companies now count sales only when the final customer acquires the product.

ANA Plans Quick 787 Ramp-Up

Boeing 787 launch customer All Nippon Airways plans to quickly ramp up its fleet of the type; it wants to introduce its first 787-8s before the end of March 2011, President and CEO Shinichiro Ito told AviationWeek in an interview.

The airline will take delivery of another 12 aircraft until the end of its fiscal year 2011 (March 2012). Ito says Boeing has given ANA the same information that has been made public—that margins in the flight test program have been eaten up. But ANA still expects to get its first 787 before the end of this year, around two and a half years later than planned.

Seems as though things have gone from 'May to delayed' to 'will be delayed'.

BOEING has blamed engine maker Rolls-Royce for yet another delay in delivering its first 787 Dreamliner.

There was industry speculation that Rolls-Royce’s new engine had suffered a catastrophic failure in testing.

The American aircraft manufacturer appeared to take a swipe at the British engine maker last night as it said that the first 787 would now be delivered in about February - two and a half years late.

When I was at Boeing on the factory tour a month ago, they had about a dozen 787's, mainly ANA, sitting in the yard ready to go. The tour guide pointed them out and advised that they were awaiting final certification before releasing them to their customers.

Boeing Pushes First 787 Delivery Back To 2011

Boeing says first 787 deliveries to launch customer All Nippon Airways will now take place around February 2011, rather than by the end of this year as had been planned.

Confirmation of the delay, issued late in the evening (Pacific time) of Aug 26, comes in the wake of an uncontained failure of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine during ground runs early in August at the company’s Derby facility in the U.K.

Although Rolls acknowledged the failure concerned the intermediate pressure turbine (IPT), few other details about the incident or its knock-on effect on the program have been released. However, Boeing says, “...the delivery date revision follows an assessment of the availability of an engine needed for the final phases of flight test this fall.”

The second the engine failure happened, this (delay to 2011) was a sure bet.

Boeing wont be winning any friends at RR by blaming their engine for the delay as i'd hazard a guess it's not be the only reason.

Spot on docjames, RR was not at fault, but a nice try by Boeing, no-doubt trying to save a few $ss with ANA..............

Oil Fire Suspected In Trent 1000 Failure

New details of last month’s Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 uncontained failure are emerging that have impacted the Boeing 787 delivery schedule once more.

Indicators point to a fault with the oil system which led to a fire developing inside the engine and damaged not just the engine, but also the infrastructure involved in the trial.

The Aug. 2 incident on a ‘Package A’ configuration engine later prompted Boeing to push back first 787 deliveries to launch customer All Nippon Airways to February 2011; the aircraft maker had planned to hand over the first aircraft by year-end under the latest of several schedule revisions.

Boeing says “the delivery date revision follows an assessment of the availability of an engine needed for the final phases of flight test this fall,” and subsequently confirmed that the affected shipset had been due to power 787 Line No.9, an aircraft added to the extended twin-engine operations performance standards (ETOPS) test effort.

thanks Bill, very interesting.

When are the QF deliveries due. It must be costing Boeing some dough in liquidated damages I would say.

We are still flying those aging 767's as a result i believe!!!! It must have upset the maintenance schedules and budget somewhat. Maybe an QF insider can comment?

cheers

Personally i have no idea on what impact this is having on QF at the moment.

Personally i have no idea on what impact this is having on QF at the moment.

You would think it'd be down to maintenance cost on the 763s vs finance cost on the 788/789s.

I cant imagine it's too negative, but if reliability worsens, it'll start costing more.

When would the 763s be due for D checks as presumably QF would like to be rid of them before then.
