Boarding by groups on JQ

I have yet to have the pleasure of flying JQ, but I'm sure it will be an issue one day.

In a now-closed thread, thadocta posted the following:

Can someone enlighten me as to how many boarding groups there are and how pax are allocated to the groups?

It sounds like status is one of the criteria. Is that QF status, oneworld status, or something else?

Does fare class make a difference?

I'm guessing with allocated seating it is less important than when open seating was used, but I still prefer boarding a near empty aircraft if possible than a near full one.

There are three groups, based on class and how early you check in. This all changes after Oct 29, when it moves to assigned seating

From Jetstar - At the airport

Orange Early Board Group will be called first for boarding. These are:
Jet Flex passengers
passengers travelling with young children
passengers who need special assistance
Blue Boarding Group will be called next for boarding. These are the Jet Saver passengers who are among the first people to check-in.
Silver Boarding Group and all remaining passengers will then be called for boarding

Are JQ blocking exit rows on all flights on the new choose your seat when you book system from Oct?

I'd imagine they will. They already use the allocated seating system on their Intl flights and it blocks the exit rows.

NZ flights you used to be able to select them though.... - it would just pop up 'You have selected an exit row seat.... blah blah suitability will be checked again at airport' or something like that.

I just emailed JQ/QF for an official response but imagine you are probably right...

Hmm I didn't know that. I'm off to CHC next week on JQ (yuck) and I seem to remember not being able to select the exit rows although I could very well be mistaken. On the flights I booked SYD-HKT-SYD, SYD-DPS-SYD and SYD-SGN-SYD (yeah and I hate Jetstar ) on the A330 I'm sure the exits were blocked so I'm possibly confusing the transtasman ones with that.

It'll be interesting to see what they say when they get back to you. It would certainly be a bit of a plus (probably the only plus!) if you can reserve the exit.

Booked a flight in December, CNS/MEL on the Deathstar site. Chose the exit row of course. The question was asked if I was able to assist etc, can't remember if it was a pop up screen or click to agree before being allocated the seats.
