What do you recommend?

For J travel BNE to NRT, is JAL or QF better?

I realise QF don't have the skybeds on this route... are they the old "Dreamtime" seats?

What about for travel out of SYD? I suspect Qantas' offering (with skybed) is better than JAL?

Thanks

QF out of BNE is JAL so no difference.Out of SYD you pay a premium to get your flat seat.
Out of BNE J is usually cheaper than QF but if on JL flight number no status bonus.

QF has a codeshare with JAL from BNE, but also flies to NRT via CNS themselves (Ex Australian Airlines route).

I thought the Australian Airlines 767's all had dreamtime seats ie 1-2-2 in J.

Quite possibly correct. See correction above. Sorry, a rush of blood to the head.

Yuk!!! I think I'll pass...
Why does Brisbane always get stuck with the dodgy J?
CX to HKG, QF to NRT, JL to NRT, QF to HKG (though Dreamtime)

The route Mal mentioned via Cairns is in a Millenium seat on an ex-AO 763. ...
Actaully,QF 69 & QF167 (+JL5142 codeshare) normally use the Dreamtime Seat equipped 763's.

To clear up some confusion... ;)

Ex-Australian Airlines 767s VH-OGI/J/K/L/V were reconfigured from 272Y to 30J/224Y (domestic Millennium configuration) some time ago. These aircraft fly to domestic destinations in addition to short haul international ports such as Christchurch and Noumea. Qantas uses Dreamtime configured 767s ex-CNS (on International flights) and as has been previously stated, these are not the ex-AO 767-300s.

The majority of time Qantas uses Dreamtime configured 767s ex-CNS to NRT/KIX/NGO. Although it's not uncommon for a domestic configured 767 (Millennium seating in J) to operate QF69 or QF167 - eg. being VH-OGH.

Odoherty, yes a number of airlines send their aircraft to BNE with older J class products such as CX/EK/JL. The premium market ex-BNE is growing very strongly, and airlines will fly newly configured aircraft to BNE over the next few years with new products and offerings. Take EK for example - their BNE service is performing remarkably and they need to add capacity desperately. Unfortunately that can't happen straight away due to staffing and fleet constraints, but from next year we'll have a nonstop BNE-DXB flight with the 345 and the 77W will operate the BNE-DXB service via SIN.

Even with older products into BNE, airlines like SQ and EK are doing very well with strong premium cabins loads.

With regards to BNE-NRT-BNE services, well the market is primarily inbound low yielding tourist pax. Due to there also being little if any premium class demand and next to no compeition, there's no need to fly a premium aircraft on the route. JQi will commence CNS-NRT services next year, and i'm putting my money on JQi taking over CNS69 and QF168 BNE-CNS-BNE.

Anyway, I hope that clears some things up.

Rgds

When I view details of the flight it says "operated by Australian Airlines"

Another reason why QF needs to update its timetables...

Flights are operated by Qantas mainline aircraft with AO crew onboard who wear the same uniform as other QF mainline staff. AO crew are much nicer and caring but unfortunately are on less pay compared with their mainline colleagues.

Rgds

Thanks very much indeed Wunula Dreaming. It's an interesting Fleet lesson. :p Sorry for my mistake odoherty. The QF/AO thing is a tad confusing.

I did the Qantas 767 shuffle earlier this year (BNE-CNS-NRT) on 69/167.

J looked pretty empty on both trips. Y was pretty empty coming back, but just about full heading up. The Qantas staff on both planes were great.
