Thanks all that helps a lot. Sounds like their signage is still lacking by the number of people who have missed the connector
Much of the signage that is there is small, so easy to miss if people aren't looking for it.
So if I was unlucky and connected through United and through T8, that would be about a 20 min walk to get there?
The last time I was at LAX, I was flying SFO-LAX-SEA, and had to reclaim and recheck due to the silly oneworld interline changes. I arrived in T5, collected bags, went upstairs to departures, checked in with AA, then walked to TBIT outside where I entered TSA through the connections checkpoint. I was in the QF F lounge within 10 minutes of entering TBIT and about 15 minutes after dropping bags in T5.
Getting close to boarding time, I left the lounge, walked through the connector to T4, then through the tunnel to T5. Was at the T5 gate in about 10 minutes.

LAX suggests the walk is 5-8 minutes per terminal passed through. Depending on how busy the terminals are, I could do it in 3-5 mins per terminal.
And I assume those TSA checkpoints in the LAX Tunnel Map between the terminals are only for people arriving from the street?
Yep, the red TSA markings on the tunnel map are the TSA entry checkpoints from that terminals ground side. The map only shows airside areas of the southern terminals. Only one TSA check and you're all good for access to any gate in the terminals shown on the map (unless you take a wrong turn in a tunnel and end up in baggage claim).

Thanks @serfty and @Himeno your advice has been extremely valuable regarding those tunnels! Probably saved me a good few hundred bucks per ticket and shaved some hours off the trip going LAX. Im going to give it a go! Awesome community!

Yes @Himeno I nearly did end up in baggage claim once by accident :D and have to redo TSA
