Hi folks,

Got a notification today that two bookings for May 2019(one cash and one points, all on the same flights) have had the Brisbane to Tokyo leg cancelled and we've been re-routed via a Sydney overnight (!) flight. Anyone know if QF has announced any route cutbacks for Japan or something?

Can't get through to customer service on either phone or chat so far!

Cheers,

Danny

It looks like they've dropped to 6/week during May on 61/62 with the flights on May 1, 9, 15, 22 and 27 dropped. Flights on June 3, 9, 10 and 16 also dropped. Appears it's back to daily after that.

25 isn't that bad. Only real annoyance with HND is having to arrive before 6am when nothing is open.

Bummer. We like that flight as it’s a daylight one. :(

Finally got hold of customer service. Yeah, cancelled.

This is my first QF flight for ages after switching to virgin back so far it was virgin blue... Looks like it'll be my last QF flight for a while too!

They've given you plenty of notice, the expectation that airlines will never cancel or change flights is unrealistic, and it's certainly nothing to be taken personally. Did you ask for alternatives? CX via HKG?

Good luck flying VA to Japan by the way...

What can I say - I was gold on qantas for years, and since then have been plat on VA. I am pretty confident I can be annoyed at the lack of reasonable alternatives offered. They won't even change us to jetstar, where there are same day seats available.

Can you ask to be re-routed via Melbourne? QF79 MEL-NRT is a day flight and should still be running daily when you travel.

(This may require you to overnight in Melbourne though)

Your past QF status and current VA status are completely irrelevant in this situation.

Ask for a refund if the proposed changes don't suit?

That was only to point out that I have spent plenty of time travelling, and am well aware that cancellations happen. i’m also well aware of what a good airline response vs. a bad airline response is!

I think in this case we’ve been able to make a date change work, after some scrambling to get things organised and a judicious application of some spare IHG points... So as close to a happy ending as circumstances allow, I think.

Cheers,

Danny

Glad it has (sort of) worked out for you.

@rtyuiop I've always found QF to be helpful when I've had schedule changes and cancellations, for both revenue and award fares. Sometimes it depends on the agent you get on the phone and it does help to be armed with alternatives.

$hit happens! A routing got cancelled on us this time last year with minimal notice (BZE-MID) it caused all sorts of grief and lots of changes with hotels, hire cars, and itinerary.... but we made it happen and got on with life.
