Any updates from Bribie Island residents on noise? Flew last week using new runway both times excruciating long taxi compared to old runway but no worse than most other large overseas airports

Noise? LOL, thing of the past. We are well west of Bribie but under the flight path in from the north. Well out so descending planes pass us at about 8,000 - 10,000 feet. In the rare event that we hear something, the reaction is now ‘wow, a plane!’, kind of a blast from the past. Most times it’s eerily silent. I miss the noise.

Not sure if this flight path is typical but looks like Bribie residents would hear even less than us.

Thanks @PineappleSkip off topic but if anyone has any thoughts about buying property on Bribie please pm me. Looking for a family home in a quite safe area. Thanks

I flew VA BNE-CNS and QF CNS-BNE in the last week and didn't think the taxi for either was dreadfully long. We took off of the north so the taxi to 01L wasn't much longer than to 01R. Landed on 19R and had a swift taxi to the QF terminal.

As a retired ATC from BN (sic) and AF (sic), may I add this?

ATC is heavily - i.e. totally and completely involved in such discussions.

The airport "owners" are relatively unimportant.

It’s a mercy really. The native birds and mangroves would have died from the jet exhaust.

On a more serious note why does it take so long to do these projects in Australia?

Would it be five years at least since they started?
Mega type projects can take decades when you decide on concept and optimised design. There many factors to consider including the investment and justification hurdles. For example Melbourne airport rail link

QUESTION•what is the update on the latest developments of Melbourne’s third runway?
At one point they had to fundamentally change its design? Understand this, and you'll understand the time to market query you well-posed.

An example is AP's pre Qld election announcement of $2 billion for road widening and other treats where the Gateway Mwy meets the Bruce Hwy. The "we're gonna do it" announcement was reinterpreted at the time by the bureaucracy as planning, with the aim of
We are expecting the business cases for the upgrades to be finalised in 2023. The business cases will then determine potential design and construction timeframes, which would then be subject to approval and available funding.

The design and construction process of course involves option selection and evaluation and more consultation through the EIS process. Add anotjer year or two for that before you get to calling for tenders!

As soon as it gets contentious you can expect years to morph into decades, the classic example being the replacement, then second, Sydney airport.

The business case gets you a place in the infrastructure priority list

Nail, head, hit!

Came across this interview with BNE's executive general manager of aviation:

I live at The Gap and the RWY 01L XRay approach flies overhead at about 3000' which is good entertainment. However I've noticed that only Qantas, Virgin and Joystar use this approach with QJet, Alliance and others sent to the ILS.
Anyone know why this is?

The ‘X’ approach you mentioned is actually an RNP (GPS based approach). Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar are all approved to fly these approaches, whereas the other airlines are not and therefore fly the ILS.

So why would only some RPT operators be approved for the RNP approach?

It’s not a just case of anyone can be cleared for the RNP. Approval comes from CASA and also down to the aircraft equipment then to crew training. RNP approaches are great in that they allow for ‘curved approaches’ to the runway and are more efficient (both in time and fuel) than tracking all the way out for a 10nm final approach.

Is anyone able to tell me whether the flights arriving tonight 4/2 around 5pm were using the new or old runway!

They were using both. JQ783 landed at 1705 on runway 01L from ADL. VA337 landed at 1659 on runway 01R from MEL.

In general, aircraft arriving from the west and north get the new runway, and aircraft from the south and east get the old one.
