BNE Intl J lounge - pre security access only Apr - Sep

Lounge dragon mentioned capacity to the couple on JQ in front of me even though there shouldn't be any impact from escalator replacement?
They’ve lost the downstairs overflow space as it’s closed during the replacement. I guess that’s the cause of the “capacity issue”.

Passing through the international terminal yesterday there is a sign after security saying no Qantas lounge beyond this point (after going down the escalators).

I did scan my boarding pass but she noticed I was on a domestic flight and directed me to Domestic instead.
I wonder if you pushed it if they’d let you in or if it’s a hard no?

Spotted this experience on Twitter from someone flying NRT-BNE-ZQN. Seems that communication about the situation remains quite poor for transit passengers.

Apparently transit passengers can get a food voucher, but need to visit the transit desk (which even yesterday was unattended). If the transit desk is unattended then apparently can get a voucher from the gate but often staff aren’t there until 60 mins prior at which point too late. I wonder if visiting a different Qantas gate would work?

Sounds like an straightforward process then, clearly designed with the passenger at front of mind ;)

It’s situations like this where you’ve really got to feel for the ordinary passenger who doesn’t frequent AFF etc. to know what’s going on.

I read that the Brisbane international lounge will only be accessible by entering BEFORE screening and immigration. It goes on to say we should allow time to go through these before the flight. 🫩
Any idea how to access the lounge if we are transiting? I hope the EK lounge is an option

Well if I was a kiwi and had a long enough layover I would just go through immigration and customs and then go upstairs to departures. It’s generally reasonably quick to get in, except in the very early morning.

Just boarded QF51. Boarding call was 10:00 for an estimated departure of 11:05. I was at the gate(78) by 10:20, the supposed boarding time. Boarding started around 10:40. Still, fast through security and immigration at that time. I checked and only 3 international flights around that time leaving.

Not sure what to make of this.....arrived at BNE INTL early for a QR flight - on J - (nothing to do with VA to be clear). QR desk not open so decided to go to the QF lounge. Gate keeper would not allow us entry so when i protested the manager came...after quite a discussion and citing One world rules as we were flying J she relented and let us is.

Side bar - I didn't have an 'official' boarding pass as yet and was happy to be declined on that point however this was never mentioned to me as a reason only that you have to be a 'one world' gold or higher to gain entry.

Surely we weren't the first QR Business Class passengers to attempt entry (that aren't also QF elite status holders)

not complaining and to be fair it actually worked in our favour....just an FYI I guess.

Hi has anyone used the temporary Qantas lounge ? Is it a hassle leaving the lounge to get through security etc . Is the lounge any good and would anyone recommend the extra stress involve when travelling to go into it . Or is it best to pay for lounge access or just stay in the public area.

It’s not temporary, the access method is otherwise it’s the normal lounge. If you’re leaving BNE it’s OK, transit no dice. If the EK lounge is open and your in need of a cardio workout it’s a good alternative.

QR direct passengers to the NZ lounge at BNE

Which is awesome but you’re still entitled to entry to oneworld lounges based on cabin.

That said, no entry without a boarding pass, and QF has the right to restrict entry based on capacity. They’ve restricted complimentary invitations and JQ pax, so even though it’s the normal lounge they obviously feel the need to restrict capacity.

Absolutely, no disagreement there.
